Marvel Television has released the official trailer for its upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man, offering a satirical glimpse into Hollywood ambition intertwined with superhero origins.
The series stars Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an aspiring actor fighting to make his mark in the competitive world of entertainment. As he pursues a breakout role, Simon begins manifesting extraordinary abilities, setting the stage for his transformation into the titular hero.
The trailer highlights Simon's relentless drive to land the lead in a rebooted superhero film titled Wonder Man, directed by the legendary filmmaker Von Kovak, portrayed by Zlatko Buric. While Simon is desperately trying to break through in Hollywood as the star of this rebooted superhero film, he is quietly developing superpowers of his own. At one point in the trailer, Simon is asked to sign a document by Agent Cleary, played by Arian Moayed in a reprisal of his role from 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, shortly before his secret powers erupt. Cleary is a high-ranking agent from the government agency known as the Department of Damage Control, who’s responsible for dealing with the aftermath of events caused by superpowered individuals, and he quickly labels Simon an “extraordinary threat.”
A key element of the story involves Simon's chance encounter with Trevor Slattery, the eccentric actor previously seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprised by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. Slattery, whose glory days appear behind him, shares news of the Wonder Man remake, sparking a pursuit of life-changing opportunities for both men at opposite ends of their careers. The series promises a behind-the-curtain look at the entertainment industry, blending comedy, drama, and action.
Created by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Andrew Guest, the show falls under the Marvel Spotlight banner, emphasizing standalone stories within the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additional cast members include Juliette Ortega as Melanie, adding layers to the Hollywood ensemble.
The trailer teases explosive power displays amid auditions and industry pressures, positioning Wonder Man as a unique entry that explores themes of ambition, identity, and the blurred lines between performance and reality in a superhero-saturated world.
Shot on location in Los Angeles, the production captures the essence of the city's dream-chasing culture, with Simon's journey reflecting the vulnerabilities and egos inherent in acting.
