The recent SAG-AFTRA strike badly affected the production of Virgin River Season 6, with no stars could begin filming until a resolution was reached. As both the writers’ and actors’ strikes have finally ended, the writers’ room has officially reopened, and the cast members can soon start filming. Thankfully, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith gives an update on when the production will finally begin and the new season’s possible premiere year.
In an interview with Glamour, Smith revealed that though they didn’t have an exact date yet when the cameras would start rolling for Virgin River Season 6, everybody is already working on the schedule. He then teased that it might happen as soon as possible. However, he seemed to have slipped that it would finally take place next year.
“We don’t have an exact date yet, but I know that everybody is working towards trying to get us back in front of the cameras as quickly as possible,” he said. “But as to when that is next year, I don’t know yet.”
When asked if fans must wait until 2025 to see the new episodes, he promised to do his “darnedest” to ensure it wouldn’t happen. That said, it might be possible that the new season would finally hit the small screen in 2024.
In a different interview with Deadline, Smith confirmed that Virgin River Season 6 would begin production in the first half of 2024. The series’ lead star, Alexandra Breckenridge, also told the outlet that the filming could “hopefully” start in the spring of the said year.
"We’re going to start as soon as the Vancouver weather allows,” she said. “So hopefully, in the spring is what I’ve been hearing.”
What to expect from Virgin River Season 6?
Among the several cliffhangers in the recent Virgin River Season 5 Part 2, the one that comes intriguing is Mel’s father coming to her door to say he has something important to tell her. When asked if it has something to do with his health, Smith revealed that this revelation might affect the relationship Mel wanted to build with her father in Virgin River Season 6.
It would also affect his possible relationship with the town and its people. Smith added that this part of the story would be part of Mel’s storyline for the season and the other characters’ lives. In addition, he teased that Mel and Jack’s wedding is “something down the road,” along with their journey through parenthood.
