Virgin River Season 6 has been confirmed, so fans will not have to say goodbye to Mel when the forthcoming Season 5 appears on Netflix. The series, based on Robyn Carr’s novels of the same name, was renewed for a sixth season in May, and for the first time in history, there will be two extra episodes released later this year.

In the middle of Season 5, the tiny town is destroyed by a wildfire, forcing locals to reconstruct their lives and relationships. In the jump forward, Mel is outside of her and Jack's home decorating for Christmas while on the phone with her sister, Joey, in the flash forward. While discussing her planned vacation to town, Joey tells Mel that she discovered a stack of love letters intended for their late mother from a Virgin River resident who may also be Mel's father.

For starters, Virgin River is one of Netflix's most enduring original dramas. As a matter of fact, it has gathered millions of streaming minutes in each of its first four seasons since it debuted on Netflix in 2019. With Season 5 releasing in two parts in 2023, the first in September and the second in November, viewers will know much more about what to anticipate from the upcoming new installment by the end of the year. As fans await more details, here is everything we know so far about Virgin River Season 6.

Unfortunately, the Virgin River Season 6 release date will not be confirmed until the show resumes production. To recall, Seasons 3 and 4 were released a year apart, in July 2021 and July 2022, respectively—signaling that Netflix aims to release one new season of the show per year. However, Season 5 broke from tradition and premiered on Netflix on September 7, 2023. Given this pattern, we are guessing that Season 6 will likely be released between late 2024 and early 2025.

Netflix has confirmed the making of Virgin River Season 6 on May 17, 2023. This renewal happened less than four months before the fifth season debuted on Netflix and even before Netflix revealed the Season 5 release date.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have practically halted television production. Fans will not have to wait long for another taste of small-town drama. Meanwhile, series lead star Alexandra Breckenridge provided an update on the Virgin River Season 6 delays.

The actress took to Instagram to answer fans' questions regarding the upcoming Virgin River Season 6. While Breckenridge cannot promote her show due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, she still uses social media to communicate with fans.

She posted her video to Instagram Stories, which means that proof of her statement will be gone in 24 hours. However, the said post informed fans that the strike had caused the Virgin River Season 6 release date to be postponed. As per The Digital Fix, she wrote:

"I’m trying to do something fun and creative with my time because SAG is on strike and I can’t go back to work and I can’t even talk about work... I can’t post anything, I can’t promote anything... I’m trying to do cooking because that’s what I love to do and share with you when I’m at home, strike or no strike."

Virgin River Season 6 Cast: Who are the actors starring in the upcoming season?

The cast of Virgin River Season 6 will most likely be the same as it was in Season 5, assuming that the fifth installment does not involve any surprise twists. There have been no recastings or similar announcements for Season 6, whether due to plot developments in the program or occurrences behind the scenes.

Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson will continue to play the lead roles as Melinda Monroe and Jack Sheridan, respectively. There is no telling who will die or bid goodbye in Season 5, but if they don’t, the cast won’t likely change for Virgin River Season 6, which includes Tim Matheson as Dr. Vernon Mullins, Colin Lawrence as John “Preacher” Middleton, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Grayson Maxwell as Gurnsey Ricky, Annette O'Toole as Hope McCrea and Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts.

Zibby Allen and Kai Bradbury are also expected to come back as Brie Sheridan and Denny Cutler, respectively. Other cast members who are likely to return for Virgin River Season 6 also includes Mark Ghanimé as Dr. Cameron Hayek, Steve Bacic as Vince, Gwynyth Walsh as Jo Ellen, Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Jenny Cooper as Joey Barnes, Nicola Cavendish as Connie, Chase Petriw as Christopher, Marco Grazzini as Mike Valenzuela, Teryl Rothery as Muriel, Christina Jastrzembska as Lydie, Trevor Lerner as Bert Gordon, Lucia Walters as Julia, Keith MacKechnie as Nick and Emma Oliver as Young Mel.

Virgin River Season 6 Plot: What is the upcoming season about?

Unfortunately, there is no news on what will happen in Virgin River Season 6, and that's because Season 5 has yet to be released on Netflix. However, there's no shortage of content to keep the series going into Season 6 and beyond.

For those unaware, Robyn Carr has written 24 Virgin River novels, thus, there are many different paths the tale could follow in Virgin River Season 6, depending on how Season 5 concludes. The Netflix series follows Mel Monroe (Alexandria Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner who relocates from Los Angeles to the rural community of Virgin River. She accepts a position as a midwife in the little town and eventually falls in love with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a former U.S. Marine suffering from PTSD.
