Disney+ and Hulu have released the first trailer for The Remarried Empress, a lavish webtoon adaptation that follows an empress who answers betrayal with a demand of her own. The romantic fantasy series stars Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young and arrives as one of the streamer’s highest-profile Korean originals. The clip offers the first moving look at the palace intrigue that turns a royal marriage into a geopolitical contest.
The first teaser trailer opens on the glittering Eastern Empire and a husband who still vows that Empress Navier (Shin Min-a) is his only wife. Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon) soon whispers that he missed Rashta (Lee Se-young), while Navier watches the court shift around her and Crown Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom greets her as his queen. The teaser closes on Sovieshu’s demand for a divorce and Navier’s calm reply that she will accept it and request approval to remarry.

What is The Remarried Empress about?
The Remarried Empress is adapted from the Naver web novel and webtoon of the same name by Alphatart, a franchise that has drawn nearly three billion views worldwide. The webtoon, illustrated for serialization after the novel’s success, follows Navier Ellie Trovi, the composed empress of the Eastern Empire, whose childhood bond with Sovieshu collapses when he brings a former runaway slave into the palace. That source material supplies the series with its central bargain: a divorce that Navier will grant only if she may remarry elsewhere and keep her crown.
The live-action story tracks that fracture as anxieties rise across the Eastern Kingdom and Sovieshu tries to win Rashta’s heart at any cost. Unwilling to surrender her dignity, Navier agrees to his request on the condition that she be allowed to marry rival Crown Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom. What follows is a tale of love, lust, and regret that threatens the fate of an entire realm as she works to reclaim her power.
The 10-episode series was filmed on elaborate palace sets and across European locations, including Prague, in an effort to match the webtoon’s ornate court world. Disney+ has described the project as one of its biggest Korean productions to date, pairing a star cast with a scale designed for a global streaming audience. Three episodes will also receive a world premiere in the On Screen section of the Busan International Film Festival in October before the series reaches homes.
Shin Min-a, known for Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Karma, plays Navier as a ruler who treats the divorce hearing as a political move rather than a personal collapse. Ju Ji-hoon, recently seen in Light Shop and The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, portrays the emperor whose obsession with Rashta upends the court. Lee Jong-suk, the lead of Big Mouth, appears as the Western prince who harbors a hidden secret, while Lee Se-young, of The Red Sleeve and The Crowned Clown, takes on Rashta as she rises from escaped slave to imperial favorite.
In the original story, Navier is praised as a flawless empress who is intelligent, socially adept, and devoted to her duties until her husband decides he wants a companion rather than a partner. Sovieshu’s plan to set her aside for Rashta is meant to satisfy his desire and secure an heir, yet it hands Navier the opening to bind herself to a rival throne. The adaptation keeps that public courtroom reversal at its core, turning a humiliation designed by the emperor into a maneuver that redraws the map between East and West.
Studio N is producing The Remarried Empress for Disney+, with Jo Soo-won directing from scripts by Yeo Ji-na and Hyun Choong-yeol. Jo Soo-won previously helmed I Can Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio, and Still 17, and he is reuniting with Lee Jong-suk after those earlier collaborations. Yeo Ji-na and Hyun Choong-yeol, the writing team behind The Uncanny Counter, are tasked with translating Alphatart’s palace intrigue into a 10-part screen story.
The Remarried Empress lands on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, 2026, opening with its first four episodes in a single drop. Two new installments then arrive every Wednesday until the 10-episode run closes on November 25. The schedule places the Eastern Empire’s divorce crisis and Navier’s counter-move front and center from day one.
