Kim You-jung's character wastes no time living up to her reputation. In a newly released preview from tvN for the first two episodes of 100 Days of Deception, Lee Ga-kyeong — Gyeongseong's most notorious pickpocket — lifts Park Jin-young's wallet just moments after their first meeting on a train, turning a chance encounter into the spark of the drama's central romance.
The preview, released by tvN, opens with an awkward collision of languages. When Lee Ga-kyeong (Kim You-jung) and Kim Tae-woong (Park Jin-young) bump into each other aboard the train, she apologizes in Japanese while he answers in Korean — then they clumsily switch, each now speaking the other's language. She asks if he is Korean; when he doesn't answer, she quickly covers in Japanese, claiming she only asked because he spoke Korean, and insists she is Japanese herself.
What follows is a small masterclass in misdirection. Kim Tae-woong gallantly retrieves her fallen hat, and while Lee Ga-kyeong trades barbs with the standoffish little girl in his arms — muttering in English about the child's princess-like scarf — he coolly suggests the girl might actually be royalty, gesturing to the crowd gathered on the platform. The moment Lee Ga-kyeong is alone and exhaling in relief, she produces the wallet she has just stolen from him.
The scene sets the tone for the 100-day game of deception at the drama's heart. Set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, the series follows Lee Ga-kyeong, the top pickpocket in Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul), who becomes an undercover spy for the independence movement and infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea. There she becomes entangled with Kim Tae-woong, an elite interpreter also known as Sato Hideo — the adopted son of the Inspector-General of Korea, the administration's second-highest-ranking official.

The drama is tvN's 20th anniversary special project, directed by Yoo In-shik of Extraordinary Attorney Woo and the Dr. Romantic series, with scripts by Ryu Bo-ri of Do You Like Brahms? and co-direction by Kim Yoon-jin. Studio Dragon and Romantic Crew produce the 16-episode series, which also stars Kim Hyun-joo as independence-fighter sniper Yoo So-ran, Lee Moo-saeng as Korean-American correspondent Yoo Philip, and Jin Seon-kyu as the ambitious Sato Shinichi.
The project has been building buzz for weeks. The lead cast appeared at a press conference in Seoul in late September, and tvN aired a special preview broadcast on October 3 — one week before the premiere — with the actors introducing the drama's world and characters directly to viewers.
100 Days of Deception premieres October 10 at 9:10 p.m. KST on tvN. No North American streaming platform has been announced yet.
