There are tons of theories and speculations as to what really happened to Princess Diana leading up to her death through an unfortunate car accident in 1997. One of the shows that embraced and based its story to the colorful life of the royals is The Crown on Netflix. For the final season of the series, the first part of The Crown Season 6 already released on Netflix and there, the death of Princess Diana was depicted which is currently facing some backlash.

The Crown Season 6 is the final season of the beloved series which is divided into two parts and will deal with the death of Princess Diana, the aftermath of the unfortunate event, and the long-term effect of what happened. Part 1 of The Crown Season 6 released last November 14, 2023 on Netflix which reveals very powerful scenes which included how the series handled the controversial death of Princess Diana. As per a report from Deadline, this did not sit well with the Queen's former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, who accused Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown, with “dramatic license gone bonkers.” Arbiter's spicy words were as follows:

The sequence of Charles telling his sons of their mother’s death was so insensitive, it was so unnecessary. The death of their mother is still raw with both of them. The scenes between Charles and his mother, in which he blurted out that she wanted Diana to come back in a Harrods van were absolute nonsense. It just didn’t happen like that. Of course an aircraft was going to be made available [to bring her body home from France]. The Queen was the first one to agree to that.

Arbiter, who worked with the Royal Family during the period of Princess Diana's death, debunked some scenes which involved the preparations of Diana's funeral like Charles Spencer, brother of Diana, making the call of having a public ceremony instead of the Queen. Arbiter revealed:

I was in charge and media arrangements for that week. Spencer thought that because Diana was a public figure, because she was very popular and people adored her, that it should be something handled by the royal family to make it a public event rather than a private family event.

What to expect in Netflix's The Crown Season 6 Part 2?

Netflix's The Crown Season 6 Part 2 is expected to continue with the dramatization of the life of the Royal Family which includes the wedding of then prince, now King Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles, the beginning of the romantic relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Netflix teased the second part of The Crown's final season on X (formerly Twitter) as seen above. The teaser contains what seems to be an invitation to the wedding of King Charles who was then the Prince of Wales, and Camilla Parker Bowles who is, then, the Duchess of Cornwall. Camilla Parker Bowles is now the queen consort.
