In a bold move to protect their artist, Antenna, the agency representing Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, has announced plans to pursue stringent legal action against individuals responsible for malicious online content targeting the beloved singer. The agency’s statement, released on June 4, 2025, addresses a surge in harmful posts that have crossed ethical and legal boundaries, sparking concern for both Kyuhyun and his devoted fanbase.

Antenna’s official statement, shared on X, reads:

Hello, this is Antenna. First of all, we would like to sincerely thank you for the love and support you have shown to the artists under Antenna. Recently, we have confirmed numerous acts targeting our artist Kyuhyun that go beyond freedom of expression and infringe upon his character. Malicious posts—including incitement to disrupt activities, spreading false information, abusive language and slander, and sexual harassment—are causing concern not only for the artist but also for the mental well-being of fans. Accordingly, we are preparing strong legal action based on the evidence we have collected through reports and monitoring. Furthermore, we will continue to take legal measures against any future defamation or similar acts targeting our artists. We will do our utmost to protect the rights and interests of our artists.

Cho Kyu-hyun, known professionally as Kyuhyun, is a South Korean singer, musical theater actor, and television personality, best recognized as the youngest member of the iconic K-pop group Super Junior. Debuting in 2006, Kyuhyun has built a versatile career, showcasing his vocal prowess in solo albums like At Gwanghwamun and starring in popular musicals such as The Three Musketeers. His charming persona and quick wit have made him a fan favorite on variety shows, cementing his status as a multifaceted entertainer.

The agency’s decisive response underscores their commitment to safeguarding Kyuhyun’s well-being and reputation. The statement highlights a range of malicious behaviors, including incitement to disrupt activities, spreading false information, abusive language, slander, and even sexual harassment. These actions, Antenna notes, not only harm Kyuhyun but also affect the mental health of his fans, prompting the agency to take a firm stand.

Kyuhyun's Controversy in The Devil's Plan: Death Room

The Devil's Plan: Death Room, the second season of Netflix's reality competition, features contestants competing in strategic mind games over seven days to determine the ultimate “brain.” Kyuhyun initially garnered praise for his sharp intellect and calm demeanor, winning early puzzle-based challenges. However, his actions in later episodes, particularly in episode 10, sparked significant backlash. During a heated discussion with contestant Kang Ji-young about fellow player Jeong Hyun-gyu’s isolation, Kyuhyun was criticized for interrupting her and making remarks perceived as dismissive. He stated, “He only did it to try and save himself. But by doing that, Hyun Gyu had become all by himself,” to which Kang Ji-young responded with confusion, questioning the group’s role in isolating Hyun-gyu. The widely circulated clip amassed over 45,000 views, with netizens accusing Kyuhyun of rude behavior and lacking competitive integrity.

Further fueling the controversy, Kyuhyun’s inconsistent gameplay drew criticism. Viewers noted his tendency to form and break alliances, such as initially targeting Choi Hyun-joon before switching to Jeong Hyun-gyu, which some deemed manipulative. His post-show actions, including a reaction video where he texted Kang Ji-young on her wedding anniversary about a scene where she expressed distrust, were seen as insensitive, intensifying public backlash. On May 21, 2025, Kyuhyun addressed the criticism on a fan platform, stating, “The production team couldn’t show everything on air. I have my own regrets, but it is what it is,” and emphasized the cast’s close bond behind the scenes.
