Netflix is making something new when it releases The Crown Season 6 this year. For the first time, the series will be divided into two parts for its last and final season, and its new trailer and poster reveal its official release schedules.

Netflix has been known for dropping all episodes of a TV season at once, but it seemingly changes its manner of releasing its hit titles. For starters, it also divided Stranger Things Season 4 into two parts: with the first part coming out in May and kept fans hanging until the final episodes’ release in July. Fortunately, the wait for The Crown Season 6 won't be long, as seen in its first trailer.

The preview features Queen Elizabeth II through the years while the clock ominously ticks and shows a familiar sitting room. It first sees a young version of the monarch, played by Claire Foy, saying, “The crown is a symbol of permanence. It’s something you are, not what you do,” as she walks through the royal residence, hinting at the passing of time.

A photo of a middle-aged queen, played by Olivia Colman, is then seen. “Some portion of our natural selves is always lost. We have all made sacrifices. It is not a choice. It is a duty,” Queen Elizabeth says, as voiced by Colman. The scene then cuts to Imelda Staunton’s version of the sovereign, looking nervous as she holds her hand. “But what about the life I put aside? The woman I put aside,” she continues.

Alternatively, The Crown Season 6 poster features Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, sitting on a diving board while staring at the sea. By the looks of it, the still is a nod to the late Princess of Wales’ iconic photo from her holiday in Portofino, Italy, on Mohamed Al Fayed's boat in 1997—a week before her tragic death. A second poster also features Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, walking under the light as her shadow casts behind her.

What will happen in The Crown Season 6?

The Crown Season 6 will continue featuring Princess Diana’s last days, with the first four episodes exploring the events surrounding her death in 1997. Queen Elizabeth will also be seen reflecting on her reign and thinking about the future when her successors take the throne. Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla (Olivia Williams) will also have a royal wedding.

Of course, it will also feature the start of the blossoming romance between Prince William (Ed McVey) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy). A teenage Prince Harry (Luther Ford) will also be seen.

You can read the synopsis below:
