The Blood of Dawnwalker, the highly anticipated single-player open-world vampire role-playing game from Rebel Wolves, will launch on September 3, 2026. Accompanying the date reveal is a compelling new story trailer that offers deeper insight into the game’s narrative and atmospheric world, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Rebel Wolves, founded by industry veterans including many former CD Projekt RED developers who contributed to acclaimed titles such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, brings together more than 160 talented team members. The studio is crafting The Blood of Dawnwalker as the opening chapter of an original dark fantasy RPG saga deeply rooted in Slavic mythology and medieval European history.

Players step into the role of Coen, a man from a remote village in the Carpathian Mountains amid the ravages of the Black Death. When his sister Lunka falls victim to the plague and faces execution, the siblings are saved by the powerful vampire lord Brencis. Lunka is transformed into a vampire to survive, but this salvation comes at a steep cost: the village must pay a blood tax by sacrificing humans to the undead. A failed uprising leaves Coen cursed with vampirism and abandoned, while his family is taken captive. With only 30 days and nights remaining, Coen must master his emerging dark powers to rescue his loved ones and confront the consequences of his new existence.

The game’s central time mechanic advances the 30-day countdown through meaningful player actions including quest completion, exploration, and dialogue choices, building tension without overwhelming freedom. “We don’t want to punish you for doing stuff,” said Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, CEO and game director (via PlayStation Blog). “So we aimed to get it to the perfect point where you’re not stressed about the time, but still feel that this big event is coming closer and closer.”

Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz elaborated on the thoughtful balance of the system, noting that it encourages thorough engagement with the world. He explained that players will have ample opportunity to experience the bulk of the content prior to any deadline pressure, and that exceeding the time limit does not end the adventure abruptly. “You’ll be able to complete a majority of the game before the time runs out,” he said. “And it’s not necessarily a game over when it happens. There are consequences [for running out of time], but the game moves on."

The Blood of Dawnwalker emphasizes meaningful player agency throughout its branching narrative. Choices carry significant weight, potentially resulting in the permanent loss of key characters or shifting political alliances, yet the story adapts dynamically and continues regardless of outcomes. Managing Coen’s vampiric hunger adds another layer of depth, as players must decide whether to feed on animals for safety or take greater risks with human targets, each option influencing morality, abilities, and relationships.

A dynamic day-night cycle further shapes gameplay, with distinct powers available depending on the time of day. The skill progression system allows investment in three complementary paths: witchcraft that excels during daylight hours, potent vampiric abilities strongest at night, and versatile sword combat effective around the clock. Combat encounters reward precision through directional attacks, timely parries, and a focus mode that helps track multiple threats, striking a balance between accessibility and strategic complexity.

The expansive open world features richly detailed biomes ranging from shadowy caves and abandoned mines to bustling settlements and eerie swamps. These environments host numerous narrative-driven activities and side quests that players can tackle in any sequence, ignore entirely, or revisit for alternate resolutions, contributing to multiple possible endings.

In recent presentations, the team revealed extended gameplay sequences from the latest PC version, highlighting immersive open-world storytelling moments and interactive elements. Additionally, retired UFC champion Jan Błachowicz lent his expertise to motion capture work, bringing authentic physicality to the movements of Bakir, a formidable vampire antagonist affiliated with Brencis’ inner circle.
