Good luck comes in strange packages. Hours before 100 Days of Deception premieres, a newly released sneak peek of the first episode finds Kim You-jung's Lee Ga-kyeong declaring it her lucky day — and then proving it by emptying out a day's worth of stolen loot with her found family, including the wallet she lifted from Park Jin-young's Kim Tae-woong.
In the 3-minute preview, posted by tvN's official drama account on October 9, the episode is cheekily titled Ga-gyeong's lucky day after stepping in dog poop — a play on the Korean superstition that the mishap brings fortune. The footage opens in a dim, candlelit room where Ga-kyeong and her young pickpocket crew gather around a wooden crate holding the day's haul, with an older woman helping sort through it piece by piece.
The first box Ga-kyeong opens is a disappointment: mostly clothing, when she had been hoping for something far more expensive. But buried at the bottom is a small sack of white rice, and her partner Inoma, played by Hong Sa-bin, lights up at the sight of it. Ga-kyeong quickly shuts down any thought of eating it — the rice is going straight to market.
Then comes the wallet. Ga-kyeong pulls out the bifold she stole from Kim Tae-woong earlier that day and flips it open, only to deflate again at how little cash is inside. When Inoma asks for his 10 percent cut, he botches the math so badly that Ga-kyeong can only shake her head at him.
The mood shifts when she digs deeper. Tucked inside the wallet is a student ID card — traditional characters, red seals, and the photograph of a young man in a school uniform — revealing that Kim Tae-woong is a student at the University of Tokyo. Ga-kyeong stares at it, visibly rattled, wondering what a Tokyo university student is doing in Gyeongseong. A pawn shop receipt gets far less reverence: she crumples it up and tosses it aside as worthless.
The preview ends on a tease. Just as Ga-kyeong thinks she has finished inspecting the haul, the supposedly empty crate keeps tipping over on its own — a hint that something is hidden inside its lining.
The sneak peek arrives as tvN's 20th anniversary special project counts down to launch. 100 Days of Deception is directed by Yoo In-shik of Extraordinary Attorney Woo and the Dr. Romantic series, with scripts by Ryu Bo-ri of Do You Like Brahms? Studio Dragon is producing the 16-episode series.
