Sadie Sink has reportedly been cast in Spider-Man 4, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe character she's playing has been the subject of rumor and debate. Prior to the report of her casting, rumors suggested that she would play Jean Grey, and much of the talk about her in the MCU has revolved around that idea. Others speculated her to play Mary Jane Watson or Firestar, but there's no confirmation at this point.
Marvel Studios and Sony Entertainment have yet to comment on Sink's potential Spider-Man 4 casting, but she has responded to the Jean Grey rumors. Speaking to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sink said that she has read speculations about her taking on the role of Jean Grey and thought the idea was "cool", but doesn't confirm the claims.
“This is news to me,” Sink replied. “No, I have nothing to say about this. The rumors are really cool, though. It’s an awesome rumor.”
“Yeah I know the character. It’s a great character,” she said “So that was cool to read.”
When you watch the video, you can see that Sink appears to be coy about the rumors, which was expected from every actor in this kind of rumor. Of course, it's possible that she's telling the truth, but it's unclear when it comes to these types of situations. Andrew Garfield was known for battling off questions about his return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, so she might also be trying to hide the truth that way.
According to the report, Sink will be acting alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4, and her casting was described as the "first major new role" that will be significant in the sequel, but the character she's playing will remain a mystery until we get an official confirmation from Marvel Studios and/or Sony Entertainment.
Sink is set to return for the fifth and final season of Netlfix's Stranger Things, which recently ended production. She will also star in Searchlight musical O'Dessa, which made its world premiere at SXSW, and will make her Broadway debut next month in John Proctor Is the Villain. She also starred alongside Dylan O'Brien in Taylor Swift's music video for All Too Well: The Short Film.
Spider-Man 4 is being directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, taking over Jon Watts, who directed the first three Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland. The sequel is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
