The Star Wars universe continues to expand into thrilling new interactive territories, and fans of high-speed adventures got an exciting glimpse during Sony's February 2026 State of Play presentation. A fresh gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer was unveiled, showcasing the game's intense, skill-based racing mechanics and its deep ties to the iconic podracing sequences from the Star Wars saga.

Developed by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Galactic Racer reimagines racing in the Star Wars galaxy as a high-stakes, runs-based experience set in the lawless Outer Rim. Players step into the role of a new racer joining the unsanctioned Galactic League, where only the boldest competitors survive. The trailer highlighted blistering speeds across diverse planetary environments, including the volcanic terrain of Sentinel One, the dusty dunes of Jakku, the icy expanses of Ando Prime, and the lush jungles of the newly introduced planet Lantaana. These tracks feature repulsorcraft racers, classic podracers, speeders, and other vehicles drawn from the vast Star Wars lore, delivering a sense of velocity and danger that echoes the legendary Boonta Eve Classic from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

The footage emphasized cinematic presentation, with dynamic camera angles allowing players to switch between immersive front-action views and broader track perspectives to better navigate hazards and competitors. The gameplay appears to prioritize precision handling, quick reflexes, and strategic maneuvering through treacherous courses filled with obstacles, tight turns, and environmental challenges. By blending nostalgia for classic Star Wars racing with modern design philosophies, the game aims to capture the adrenaline-fueled excitement that has defined the franchise's vehicular pursuits for decades.

Craig Derrick, an executive producer with Lucasfilm Games, highlighted the team's ambitions in a statement accompanying the reveal: “Our goal with Galactic Racer is to deliver a racing experience that’s cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars, and this gameplay reveal is a major step toward that vision.”

Derrick also elaborated on the project's broader intent: “Star Wars: Galactic Racer is about celebrating the thrill of Star Wars racing while pushing it into bold new territory, and this reveal marks the beginning of that journey.”

Following its initial announcement and reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2025, this State of Play appearance provided the first substantial look at in-game action, building anticipation for what promises to be a fresh entry in Star Wars gaming. The trailer not only confirmed the return of podracing elements but also teased a narrative-driven campaign centered on a racer named Shade, who seeks glory and revenge amid the chaos of the Galactic League.

Unfortunately, we didn't get any kind of update on its release date beyond its previously announced 2026 release window. Hopefully, we'll start to see more of the game as we get deeper into the year. After it first appeared at The Game Awards 2025, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise for it to appear at Summer Game Fest this coming June 2026. Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
