Star Wars: Galactic Racer is off to a flying start. The podracing game launched this week to some of the strongest reviews of the year, sitting at 88 on Metacritic for PlayStation 5 with Eurogamer awarding it a rare 100. As the first Star Wars racing game since 2002's Racer Revenge, the debut from Fuse Games — a studio founded by Burnout veterans — has struck a chord with its frenetic podracing and a run-based roguelite campaign structure. Now the team is responding to one of players' most common requests.

In a reply to players asking for larger parties on X, the game's official account confirmed Fuse Games is working on an update to increase the party size from three to six players, with the aim of releasing it within the first few weeks of launch. "We'd like to let you and everyone on this thread know that we hear you," the team wrote, adding that more details are coming soon.

The change addresses a notable limitation at launch. With only three-player parties, much of the multiplayer grid has been filled out by bots. Doubling the cap to six means more real racers on the track, which should translate to more chaotic battles and closer finishes — exactly the kind of wheel-to-wheel drama the game's unforgiving podracing is built for.

The quick response is a good sign for the game's post-launch support. Galactic Racer arrived on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 6, and Fuse Games clearly intends to keep the momentum going while the launch buzz is fresh. A party-size increase is the kind of community-driven fix that can meaningfully change how the multiplayer feels day to day.

Podracing has been dormant in games for over two decades, despite remaining one of the most iconic sequences in the Star Wars saga. Galactic Racer fills that gap with high-speed anti-grav racing across planets both familiar and new, wrapping the arcade action in a roguelite progression system where each run brings different upgrades, rivals, and hazards. Reviewers have singled out how the game captures the breakneck danger of the sport while giving it modern structure.

It also fits the trajectory of a game that has exceeded expectations. Few predicted that a podracing revival would become one of 2026's best-reviewed releases, but the combination of Burnout pedigree and Star Wars spectacle has proven potent. Keeping the community's most-requested features coming in the first weeks could help convert that critical acclaim into a lasting player base.

No exact date for the update has been announced beyond the "first few weeks of launch" window. Players waiting to round up a full crew of six may not have to wait long.
