The Book of Boba Fett, the 2021 Disney+ series that aimed to center the legendary bounty hunter in his own story, ultimately proved to be a critical and commercial disappointment. Despite high anticipation following the character's revival in The Mandalorian Season 2, the show received mixed reviews, struggled to maintain consistent viewership momentum, and failed to earn a renewal for additional seasons, leaving many questions about the future of Boba Fett in the Star Wars universe unanswered.

Now, Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrayed the iconic character, has shared candid reflections on where things stand. In an interview with Inverse, Morrison discussed his ongoing wait for news about Boba Fett's next appearance while promoting his new film The Bluff. He confirmed that the character is currently on hold at Lucasfilm, with no immediate projects lined up. “I’m still waiting for a phone call,” Morrison said, acknowledging that the franchise has shifted its focus elsewhere in recent years.

The so-called "Mandoverse"—the interconnected live-action storytelling arc that includes The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and elements from The Book of Boba Fett—continues to move forward. A major theatrical film is in development that will reportedly bring together characters from these series, including Din Djarin and Grogu. However, Morrison indicated he has not been involved in those plans so far, suggesting Boba Fett remains on the sidelines for the time being.

Morrison’s connection to Star Wars spans more than two decades, beginning with his role as Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002). As the genetic source for the Republic’s clone army, he also provided the voice and motion-capture foundation for countless clone troopers across the prequel era, animated series, and beyond. He later returned to live-action as Boba Fett, first in The Mandalorian and then as the lead in his own spin-off. Reflecting on this expansive legacy, Morrison expressed deep appreciation: “I’m Jango. I’m Boba. I’m Commander Cody. I’m all the clones. I’m Captain Rex.... the list goes on, so I really can’t complain.”

Despite the challenges faced by The Book of Boba Fett, Morrison looks back on the experience positively. He highlighted the enjoyment of working alongside Ming-Na Wen, who portrayed Fennec Shand, and described the production as a significant milestone in his career. “When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na, I started to think, ‘Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4,’” he recalled. Although those additional seasons never materialized, he emphasized the value of the time spent on the project: “But at the end of it, we had a great time.”

Morrison also addressed earlier comments he made at conventions, where he playfully encouraged fans to contact Lucasfilm about bringing Boba Fett back. He clarified that those remarks were lighthearted and not meant to be taken literally. “I was only joking. I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things,” he explained, noting that the studio responded gently to the suggestion.

As the Star Wars franchise continues to expand with new films, series, and crossovers, Morrison remains philosophical about his current status. He likened his situation to being temporarily set aside, using a humorous and optimistic metaphor: “[I’m] shelved, that’s all,” he said, before adding, “like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter, darling.”

With upcoming projects such as The Mandalorian and Grogu film on the horizon, the galaxy far, far away keeps evolving. While Boba Fett’s next chapter has yet to be written, Morrison’s multifaceted contributions—from bounty hunter to clone template—have left an indelible mark on the saga. His patience and gratitude suggest that whenever the opportunity arises, he will be ready to step back into the armor with the same dedication that has defined his long tenure in the franchise.
