Netflix has unveiled a gripping new trailer and poster for its upcoming noir action drama Mercy For None, starring So Ji-sub in a highly anticipated return to the genre. Set to premiere on June 6, 2025, the series promises a relentless tale of vengeance, with So Ji-sub’s character, Nam Gi-jun, at the heart of a brutal quest for justice. The newly released promotional materials highlight the raw intensity and high-octane action that await viewers in this adaptation of a popular Naver webtoon.

The striking poster captures Nam Gi-jun, portrayed by So Ji-sub, in a moment of unyielding fury, his face and fist bloodied as he delivers a merciless blow. His cold, emotionless gaze underscores the character’s hardened resolve, while the tagline, “The rules have been broken, and he is back,” sets the tone for a story driven by betrayal and retribution. The accompanying trailer opens with Nam Gi-jun at his brother Nam Gi-seok’s funeral, played by Lee Jun-hyuk, before plunging into his violent journey to uncover the truth behind his sibling’s mysterious death. Armed with his signature baseball bat, Nam Gi-jun showcases fierce combat skills, using his own body as a weapon in a series of intense, action-packed sequences.

Directed by Choi Sung-eun, Mercy For None marks So Ji-sub’s first venture into noir action since his role in the 2012 film A Company Man. The series also features a stellar ensemble cast, including Heo Joon-ho as Lee Ju-woon, the head of the Juwoon gang, and Ahn Kil-kang as Gu Bong-san, the leader of the rival Bongsan gang. Additional key roles are filled by Lee Beom-soo, Gong Myung, Choo Young-woo, Jo Han-chul, and a special appearance by Cha Seung-won, adding depth to the intricate power struggles within Seoul’s underworld.

What is Mercy For None about?

Based on O Se-hyung’s webtoon Plaza Wars: Mercy for None, the eight-episode series follows Nam Gi-jun, a former gangster who severed ties with the criminal world by slashing his own Achilles tendon to secure his exit. Eleven years later, the sudden and mysterious death of his younger brother, Nam Gi-seok, pulls him back into the dark underbelly of Seoul’s gang scene. As Gi-seok had risen to the rank of executive director in the Juwoon organization, his death sparks a chain of events that forces Gi-jun to confront old allies and enemies alike.

The narrative weaves a complex tale of loyalty, betrayal, and vengeance, set against the backdrop of a power struggle between two rival gangs, Juwoon and Bongsan, in Seoul’s National Assembly Plaza in Yeouido. With its R-rated intensity and graphic violence, Mercy For None promises a gritty exploration of a man driven to the edge by grief and a thirst for answers.
