Doctor on the Edge is ENA’s upcoming medical romance drama that tells the love story of public health doctor Do Ji-eui, played by Lee Jae-wook, who is assigned to the notorious island of Pyeondong. There, he meets nurse Yook Ha-ri, portrayed by Shin Ye-eun, a woman hiding a secret who has suddenly returned to her hometown after quitting a prestigious university hospital. As they cross paths on the remote island, the pair embarks on a heartwarming journey filled with saving patients’ lives, getting to know the charming island residents, and discovering unexpected love and mutual healing.
Shin Ye-eun takes on the role of Yook Ha-ri, a dedicated nurse known for her bright smile and caring nature. She previously worked at a prestigious university hospital but chose to return to Pyeondong for reasons yet to be revealed. New stills from the drama showcase the actress displaying both her character's cheerful demeanor and moments of worry that hint at her hidden secret.
The actress shared her thoughts on selecting the project. “The concept of a public health doctor felt unique, and all of the residents of Pyeondong were charming and multidimensional. I felt that the warm episodes—filled with laughter and the process of healing one another—would resonate with many viewers.” She was drawn to the multidimensional characters and the heartwarming story.
Shin Ye-eun described her character in detail. “She’s someone so full of love that she could even seem overly nosy, yet she is both gentle and strong. I wanted to blend my own qualities with Ha Ri’s charms to create a character viewers would love.”
Portraying the complex emotions of the role presented a challenge for the actress. “Ha Ri is a character who has to show a wide range of emotions in a short amount of time and undergo significant emotional shifts. I focused on expressing those diverse feelings harmoniously and staying locked into Ha Ri’s emotional arc.” Shin Ye-eun worked diligently to capture these nuances in her performance.
To authentically depict a nurse on screen, the actress undertook thorough preparation. “I wanted to portray the warmth and professional skill of a real nurse. I sought advice, asked questions, watched related videos, and listened to real-life experiences to get closer to understanding the nursing profession.” Her commitment is expected to bring remarkable depth and realism to the series.
The drama promises to deliver a blend of medical drama, romance, and human stories set against the backdrop of a picturesque yet isolated island.
