Rockstar Games is strengthening its focus on user-generated content (UGC) by expanding its Creator Platform team. This strategic move comes as the company gears up for the launch of its next major title, GTA 6. The initiative aims to harness the power of community-driven content creation, similar to successful models in the industry, to enhance player engagement and longevity of its game ecosystems.

RockstarIntel first drew attention to the new job postings within the Creator Platform team. Rockstar's careers page details openings such as the Strategy Research Associate position. These listings underscore the company's intent to deepen its involvement in UGC and creator-driven experiences.

The requirements for these roles highlight the need for a “deep understanding of the landscape of Creator Platforms (Roblox, Fortnite, YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, etc.).” Both Fortnite and Roblox boast strong creation tools that have empowered players to become developers in their own right. In Roblox, fans have crafted thousands of unique experiences ranging from obbies and tycoons to full-fledged role-playing adventures and competitive shooters, with some user-created games amassing player counts that rival or exceed those of many traditional AAA multiplayer titles. Fortnite’s Creative mode has similarly allowed creators to design custom islands, mini-games, and immersive worlds, keeping the community active through innovative user-generated maps and events that extend the game's lifespan significantly.

Candidates are also expected to possess “familiarity with the GTA Roleplay ecosystem”.

  • Rockstar’s Creator Platform team builds and operates technology platforms that enable creators to develop their own game modes, experiences, and modifications for players to experience community-created content on fully customized servers.

  • We develop tools and services that empower creators to build, publish, operate, grow, and monetize their experiences.

  • We work at the intersection of games, creator ecosystems, platform infrastructure and community.

The two positions highlighted are in-office at Rockstar’s NYC headquarters, the location where major company decisions are made. This setup is somewhat unusual compared to the FiveM staff, who have largely been based in studios in the United Kingdom. However, opportunities within the Creator Platform team continue to be available at Rockstar London and Leeds. The job listings for those UK locations place greater emphasis on FiveM and RedM, with more detailed references to those specific modification platforms.

By investing in these creator tools and platforms, Rockstar Games appears poised to create a more dynamic and sustainable environment for player interaction. This expansion not only builds upon the success of GTA V’s online components but also lays the groundwork for a robust content ecosystem surrounding the upcoming GTA 6. The company has already taken steps in this direction, such as the launch of the Cfx Marketplace earlier this year, which serves as an official store for mods and community creations tied to FiveM. The team’s responsibilities include conducting competitive analyses on games and platforms, tracking metrics for engagement and revenue across FiveM and RedM, and supporting business development initiatives that could shape future live-service features.

As the gaming industry continues to evolve, UGC has become a cornerstone of player retention and revenue generation for live-service titles. Platforms like Roblox have demonstrated the massive potential, with billions of hours of gameplay driven by user creations. Fortnite has proven that integrating creator tools can lead to viral content and sustained interest. Rockstar’s pivot toward these models suggests a forward-thinking approach to integrating community contributions directly into its flagship franchises. The Creator Platform team’s work at the crossroads of technology, community management, and game development will be crucial in realizing this vision, particularly as the company seeks to expand beyond traditional modding support into broader, more accessible creator ecosystems.
