Season 2 arrives today with a bunch of new stories straight from the different parts of the multiverse! It is, indeed, a Christmas treat for everyone, especially Marvel fans, because instead of counting the "12 days of Christmas," it is going to be "9 days of Marvel's What If...? Among the highly anticipated releases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Marvel's What If...? Season 2 and finally, a trailer for it is released packed with a whole lot of announcements for the series. First up, What If...? Season 2 will come out on December 22, 2023 which makes it a literal Christmas treat from Marvel Studios and Disney Plus. Second, new stories and characters are getting mixed up in different alternate realities. Lastly, What If...? As if unwrapping a Christmas present, What If...? Season 2 comes exactly during the holiday season and just in time before the year ends. The arrival of What If...? Season 2 marks the final stages of MCU's Phase Five as it is among the last TV series of Marvel Studios with Echo and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries before Phase 6 begins. The events in Marvel's What If...? Season 2 are from the different branched timelines across the multiverse.
What to expect in Marvel's What If...? Season 2?
Marvel's What If...? Season 2 brings characters from the previous season back as well as the arrival of new characters from the MCU to the uncanny world of possibilities in the series. The show is something like an anthology where one episode has an entirely different story as to the others but there is one cohesive narrative binding all of the episodes, too. The trailer of Marvel's What If...? Season 2 shows what one would expect from the animated Marvel series.
There is the younger version of Peter Quill who will be taking on the older version of the Avengers, Hela making her MCU return, Scarlet Witch seemingly exploding with her powers, Shang-Chi and Xialing facing Ego, an all-new look and aura from Nebula, and Iron Man, Valkyrie, Korg, and The Grandmaster in something similar to a Mad Max-style race. There is also a battle between Thanos and Captain America, similar to that in Infinity War, only to face Captain Carter later. Stranger Supreme is back after saving the Multiverse and Uatu confirms that while he does not do sequels very much, What If...? Season 2 just feels right.
The most surprising part is the introduction of a new MCU hero, Kahhori, where the Tesseract fell on Earth in sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy which is set before the colonization of America. With time being flexible in What If...? Season 2, the possibilities are endless!
