With how vast the franchise of the galaxy far, far away is, the franchise has a lot of actors who worked or are currently working over the past near half century that it has been in existence. The number of talents that Star Wars has is so huge that the stars which don't fit in the same timeline usually haven't seen each other within the franchise and their only chance is to encounter one another in a different setting. This is true for Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker as he finally met his on-screen mother, Natalie Portman who portrayed Padmé Amidala, for the first time, during the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

The Original Trilogy started it all for the Star Wars franchise and one of its banner actors is Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker over the years and became an icon in the lore. Meanwhile, the Prequel Trilogy is another story which got the same attention as the first three films and the mother of Luke Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, is one of the main focuses of the narrative. Given being in different timelines, Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman did not meet in the Star Wars franchise. Finally, for the first time ever, they meet each other during the 2024 Golden Globe Awards and the moment was shared by Hamill on Instagram. Check his post below:

The meeting between the two is a surreal moment. Hamill captioned his post, "Now I have finally met my "mother", thanks to the @goldenglobes." Luke Skywalker is the son of Padmé Amidala in Star Wars and it took two decades before this moment could happen, that even for a short while, the mother and son crossed paths.

Can Luke Skywalker and Padmé Amidala still return in Star Wars?

First up is Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill was last seen suiting up as Luke in The Book of Boba Fett following his recent appearances in The Last Jedi and his de-aged version in The Mandalorian Season 2. Speaking with CBS News Sunday Morning for an interview, Mark Hamill revealed that while he remains open to reprise his role in Star Wars, he does not see a reason to do it anymore. Hamill said, "Well, you never say never. I just don't see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don't need Luke anymore."

As for Natalie Portman, the actress, too, is open to reprise the role of Padmé Amidala in Star Wars but she revealed in an interview with Watch What Happens Live that no one asked her to return where she said, "I’m open to it, no one has asked.” Since Star Wars had resurrected characters in different ways, the franchise could surely do the same for Natalie Portman's Padmé Amidala but that means finding a way how her return could work for the current narrative.
