Star Wars has teased another epic event that’ll occur in the franchise canon, i.e., a battle between Luke Skywalker and one of the deadliest and most dangerous women who wear the face of mother, Padmé Amidala. The preview for Free Comic Book Day 2024: Star Wars/Darth Vader #1 teases that Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are trying their best to bring in new readers to the Star Wars Universe.
Many stories have been brewing in the main Star Wars comic series and the Darth Vader comic series in the last year, and some fans expected them to reach a certain degree in an FCBD release. Darth Vader’s storyline explains what occurred between Vader and Emperor Palpatine after the events of The Empire Strikes Back, with Vader trying to recruit Luke to his side in order to overthrow the Emperor.
Palpatine took that betrayal quite seriously and ended up stealing Vader’s cybernetic enhancements and making him prove his worth as a Sith Lord on his own. A small war between the Crimson Dawn syndicate (led by Lady Qi'ra) and the Emperor ended up disrupting the whole force, with both Luke and Vader being left with troublesome connections to dark and light sides.
Luke had many things to take care of while attempting to re-establish his own connection, and a tour of the galaxy is going to make him run into Sabé, the most dogmatic and militant member of the Padmé's handmaidens. For the last year, Sabé has been a supporting character in Vader’s comic series, so her arc might show her figuring out the connection between Vader and Anakin Skywalker.
She might use this connection to try and exert some sort of control over the Sith Lord by making use of any lingering feelings of love he felt. Vader has definitely resisted all attempts of getting pulled out of the darkness and suffering of a Sith Lord. However, in addition to discovering that he’s really Anakin, Sabé also sees a vision informing her that his son Luke is in the galaxy. You can see the comic’s cover below:
