One of the best things about Loki Season 2 Episode 3 is the introduction of Victor Timely, a seemingly unassuming yet brilliant young inventor struggling to make a name for himself in the 19th century. His genius was not a surprise considering that he is also a Kang Variant and is portrayed with endearing vulnerability by Jonathan Majors. Now, 1893 director Kasra Farahani confirmed that the Lovecraft County star helped create such an intriguing new character.
In Loki Season 2 Episode 3, Loki and Mobius travel to 1893 to find Miss Minutes in an effort to repair the TVA's Temporal Loom. Their journey leads them to Victor Timely, the Kang Variant who has been guided by Miss Minutes and Renslayer to create a Loom prototype. Clearly, Renslayer is trying to influence Victor but he ultimately chooses to help Loki and Mobius instead.
Victor is the third major Kang Variant to be introduced in the MCU and just like the first two, his performance makes the new character unique in his own right. Although the screenplay can be thanked for that, director Kasra Farahani, who helmed Loki Season 2 Episode 3, confirmed to Screenrant that Jonathan Majors was very much involved in the characterization of the Variant.
"There was a huge amount of invention and specificity that Jonathan brought to building out this role," Farahani said. "The exact nature of his quirkiness, the embodiment of someone who is at once so brilliant that they're operating seven levels above normal people, but then the awkwardness that comes as a result of that in terms of how they interact on a more basic level."
Fans truly enjoyed Victor's introduction in Loki Season 2 and are looking forward to seeing more of him in the next three episodes. But what role will the Kang Variant play in the future? The whole idea that Loki and Mobius came to him before he learned more about the TVA suggests he would be more open to fixing it with better intentions. On the other hand, it's important to remember that Victor is a con artist and could simply be playing into their trust to get a better understanding of his future. Either way, we can't wait to see more of Victor this week.
Loki Season 2 Episode 4 has not yet been given an official title. It will premiere on Disney+ on October 26, 2023.
