Acclaimed actor Kim Nam-gil has been confirmed for a special appearance in the upcoming tvN drama Mad Concrete Dreams, where he will play the younger brother of lead actress Im Soo-jung and the brother-in-law to star Ha Jung-woo, bringing early momentum to the series’ intricate plot.

Also known by its original Korean title Daehanmingukeseo Geonmulju Doeneun Beop (How to Become a Building Owner in Korea), Mad Concrete Dreams is a crime thriller laced with black comedy. The story follows Ki Su-jong (Ha Jung-woo), a small-time landlord drowning in debt and on the verge of losing the one property he owns and cherishes. In a desperate bid to protect his home and provide for his family, he agrees to a seemingly controlled plan: stage a kidnapping inside his own building’s basement. The scheme quickly unravels when the staged abduction becomes dangerously real, pulling Ki Su-jong into a chaotic spiral of crime, betrayal, and moral compromise.

Kim Nam-gil appears as Kim Kyun, a detective in the violent crimes unit and the dependable younger brother of Kim Seon (Im Soo-jung). He maintains a warm, brotherly relationship with his brother-in-law Ki Su-jong, communicating through glances and quiet understanding in moments of tension. When Ki Su-jong’s building faces imminent auction, Kim Kyun begins digging into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the property, using his professional skills to uncover hidden truths.

The production team highlighted the significance of his contribution, stating: “Actor Kim Nam Gil will appear as a key figure driving the story from the first episode, delivering a powerful presence. We are grateful to Kim Nam Gil for giving a performance that goes beyond a special appearance.”

This marks Ha Jung-woo’s first television series in 19 years since his 2007 drama H.I.T., making his return to the small screen a major event. He is supported by a talented ensemble that includes Im Soo-jung as his wife Kim Seon, along with Kim Jun-han, Jung Soo-jung (Krystal), and Shim Eun-kyung. Together they explore themes of financial desperation, family loyalty, and the ethical lines people cross when survival is at stake.

Directed by Yim Pil-sung and written by Oh Han-ki, Mad Concrete Dreams combines high-stakes suspense with sharp dark humor to examine the extreme measures ordinary people take to hold onto what they value most.
