The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is still growing less than two months before the film opens. The newest addition is Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller, who will appear in the Marvel film in a secret cameo role.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Hüller's involvement in its Friday newsletter, with sources describing the part as a cameo. No details about her character have been revealed, and Marvel Studios declined to comment on the casting.

The confirmation settles weeks of rumors that began when Hüller's name surfaced on the British Stunt Register. Stunt performer Stevie Parker was listed as having stood in for Hüller on the Doomsday set, a small credit that set off a wave of speculation.

Parker's listing also named Katya Hazel Boirand and Josie Pocock as performers she doubled for on the film. Fans quickly connected the three names to a group of mysterious figures tied to Doctor Doom's homeland of Latveria.

The leading theory puts Hüller among the Latverian Witches, a group of hooded enchantresses associated with Doom. Another possibility raised by fans is Cynthia von Doom, Doom's mother, a witch whose tragic history sits at the center of the character's comic book mythology.

Neither theory is confirmed, and Marvel has given no hint about which, if any, is right. The studio did display color-coded Latverian Witch robes at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, and the Russo brothers have said Doom wields Latverian magic in the film, which has only fueled the speculation. The convention display labeled the costume only as "Latverian Witch," with the robe's color changing each day of the event.

Hüller arrives in the MCU with serious credentials. She earned an Academy Award nomination for Anatomy of a Fall and starred in The Zone of Interest, which won the Oscar for Best International Feature.

This year she moved into blockbuster territory with Project Hail Mary, playing the official who recruits Ryan Gosling's character for his planet-saving mission. She was also recently seen opposite Tom Cruise in Digger.

In a neat twist, both Project Hail Mary leads are now part of Marvel's world. Gosling was announced at Comic-Con as the MCU's Ghost Rider, though Hüller will reach the screen first when Doomsday opens.

Hüller joins one of the largest casts Marvel has ever assembled, spanning longtime MCU stars and returning X-Men actors from the Fox era. The film is now deep in post-production as it heads toward its December opening. Even in that company, a cameo kept this secret stands out.
