One of the richest franchises when it comes to actors is the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a number of artists from across the globe to fill in the various roles in the vast narrative. Over the years, some were replaced for a plethora of reasons. For Jonathan Majors, will he stay in the lore or will he be replaced after he faced an assault charge?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently on Phase Five of its narrative under the Multiverse Saga where the next big bad is Kang the Conqueror. Jonathan Majors landed the role and appeared in three projects, so far, in Loki Seasons 1 and 2, and in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Expected to remain until the end of the Multiverse Saga, speculations arise whether Jonathan Majors would be replaced.
Will Jonathan Majors be replaced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Throughout the franchise, word has it that the actors under the Marvel Cinematic Universe follow a strict contract to agree to. Some clauses that were revealed by other stars from the MCU are: being expected to adhere to the image of Disney, avoiding controversies, and even participating in various charities. A breach of this contract could mean anything for the actor and the studio with harsh punishments, even arriving to the point of replacing an actor.
On March 25, 2023, as reported by TMZ, Jonathan Majors was arrested after his alleged girlfriend charged him with assault, harassment, and strangulation. After the incident, the actor's talent management, Entertainment 360, dropped the actor from their roster as reported by Deadline. An allegation of domestic altercation alone is enough to conclude that Majors did not adhere to the contract, especially to the expectation of maintaining the image of Disney. Still, the Marvel Cinematic Universe had not made an official announcement yet.
Since there is no official announcement yet whether Jonathan Majors would remain as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, the actor still holds the character until it could be taken from him through being replaced. Currently, Jonathan Majors plays various version of his character from various branched timelines. So far, those confirmed characters under Jonathan Majors are Kang the Conqueror, He Who Remains, Immortus Kang, Pharaoh Rama-Tut and Scarlet Centurion. The actor is also on Loki Season 2, playing a variant of He Who Remains named Victor Timely.
