It seems that there is a possibility of Loki Season 3 becoming a reality, as one of the leading producers hints at the future of Tom Hiddleston's character beyond season 2. After a significant gap, Loki Season 2 has finally premiered, continuing the multiverse exploration with the God of Mischief. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe advances into The Multiverse Saga, Loki Season 2 is a crucial part of the narrative, particularly with the return of Kang the Conqueror (or at least one of his Variants) this season.
Loki Season 2 has just debuted on Disney+ last week but executive producer Kevin Wright has already hinted at the possibility of a third season. In an interview with Collider, Wright discussed the development of Loki Season 2, describing it as a way to "close that book" on the story they've been focusing on since Season 1. However, he emphasized that "there are many books on the shelf for this character," teasing the potential for Loki Season 3.

"It was similar to Season 1 in we wanted to tell this story and tell it well, but even in Season 1, we obviously were thinking about where we were going. I would say Season 1 and Season 2 were developed and created as, like, kind of two chapters of the same book," Write said. "We felt pretty strongly, all of us involved, that Season 2 was about closing that book but that there are many other books on the shelf for this character and for this world. But this felt like it wanted to be the conclusion of these great things that we set up in Season 1. We don't want to constantly leave people with drastic cliffhangers for our finales."
This is an exciting possibility but it's understandable why Wright is cautious about giving too much hope about the future. Still, given Loki's success in the past and the promising premiere of the second season, a renewal is certainly possible.
What to Expect in Loki Season 3
It might be too soon to look into the future but Loki Season 3 could be integrated into The Multiverse Saga. Given that the third season would likely be written and filmed before the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the show could continue to expand the overall storyline of the MCU. It might focus on elements unrelated to Kang, allowing for more exploration of alternate universes actively opposing Kang.

The MCU is expected to become increasingly aware of Kang in the near future. If Loki Season 3 decides to go in this direction, it could use the next season to lay the groundwork for the final stages of The Multiverse Saga. In theory, Loki could explore other alternative universes actively working to thwart Kang, which would tie into the upcoming Avengers films as the saga nears its conclusion. This approach would position Loki Season 3 as a means to prepare the MCU for its epic confrontation with Kang, impacting multiple realities in the process.
For now, the series has not yet been renewed for a third season. Loki Season 2 Episode 2 will premiere on Disney+ on October 12, 2023.
