X-Men is all the rave today, thanks to the success of X-Men ‘97 and the excitement that the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine brings. However, although details about the new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie remain scarce, the recently dropped trailer gave several hints about Wolverine’s return after his supposed death in the 2017 Logan. This leads to theories that Hugh Jackman is probably playing a version of Logan from the animated series in the MCU film, but industry insider My Time to Shine Hello has something to say about it.
After the insider shared a GIF image of Wolverine and Deadpool’s fight on X (formerly Twitter), a fan couldn’t help but ask if the Logan in the MCU movie was the same as the one in X-Men ‘97. So, to answer this question, My Time to Shine Hello shared the fan’s comment and revealed the real version of Wolverine that would be seen on the big screen.
“It’s a new variant we haven’t seen before,” he wrote.
Fans are advised to take this assumption with a grain of salt. So far, nothing has been confirmed yet, as details about the movie and Wolverine's character are under lock and key.
The Theory that Connects Deadpool & Wolverine to X-Men ‘97
Fans have created a lot of theories about Logan’s return in Deadpool & Wolverine. They even used the movie’s latest trailer to support their claims. They all stem from Paradox’s line that “this” Wolverine has let his whole world down and a scene where he looks troubled by his past, not wanting to be a hero anymore. Add that to the dream-like sequence where he seems to be in a barren land; fans can’t help but connect it to the Genosha massacre in X-Men ‘97.
Reddit user Amusing Artistic believes that Logan in X-Men ‘97 and Deadpool & Wolverine are the same and the tragic event that may have left him feel like a failure in the trailer is the attack on Genosha. The Redditor also mentioned when Morph said Wolverine would be the “only survivor at the end of utopia,” thinking it might happen to Logan in the movie. And with the bartender saying he’s unwelcomed everywhere, it’s likened to how humans despise mutants in the reboot series.
It’s good to note that X-Men ‘97 creator Beau DeMayo earlier revealed that the animated series is not part of the MCU canon and is its “own thing.” That said, it may be impossible for the Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine to be the same as the one from the Disney+ show. Jackman himself also claimed that different sides of his character had never been seen before in the previous X-Men movies. That said, fans may meet a new Wolverine this time.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit the theaters on July 26, 2024. Alternatively, X-Men 97 Episodes 1 to 8 are available to stream on Disney+, while new episodes are slated to release every Wednesday.
