A new trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has arrived with far more of Hogwarts on screen than the first teaser allowed. The footage follows Harry from the moment McGonagall addresses the first years through the castle corridors, the Great Hall feast, and the classrooms where the school's welcome turns sharp. Hogwarts is no longer a brief backdrop here. It is the place where Harry is sorted, tested, and already being watched.
The trailer opens with Janet McTeer's Minerva McGonagall explaining the Sorting Ceremony to first-year students, then introduces the central trio of Harry, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley as they find their places in the Great Hall. Harry pleads with the Sorting Hat not to send him to Slytherin and is placed in Gryffindor instead, after which John Lithgow's Albus Dumbledore starts the feast as food appears across the tables. The montage that follows includes Harry's owl Hedwig, wizard's chess in both its ordinary and giant forms, a troll in the dungeon, Paapa Essiedu's Severus Snape mocking Harry in class, and an early tease of the Philosopher's Stone itself.

Those images sit inside a season logline that recasts Harry's ordinary upbringing as the doorway into something far larger. The official description states: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure. Yet behind Hogwarts’ enchanted walls lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the darkest wizard of all."
The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. The rest of the announced company includes Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash as Gregory Goyle. Together they cover the first-year students, house rivals, and key Hogwarts staff who define Harry's opening year.
Francesca Gardiner is writing the series and serving as an executive producer on the screen version of Rowling's books. Mark Mylod is also an executive producer and will direct several episodes for HBO, with the season produced in partnership with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Rowling is among the executive producers as well, joined by Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is scheduled to premiere on HBO on December 25, 2026. The first season runs eight episodes and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
