A main trailer has been released for The Blue Road, pairing a Seoul detective and a Tokyo detective on the same string of brutal murders stretching across Korea and Japan. Son Suk-ku plays Kim Seok, a detective with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, while Nagayama Eita plays Inose, a detective with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Han Jun-hee, the director behind the D.P. series and the film Coin Locker Girl, helms the series. His two leads approach the case from opposite directions, and the footage makes clear from the start that their forced partnership begins with friction rather than trust. The killings they are chasing took place across both countries, which is exactly why neither police force can work the case alone.

The trailer opens with a young girl picking up a mysterious packet of medicine before an unidentified assailant abducts her. From there it cuts to the discovery of a corpse with broken limbs, and to Kim Seok reaching out to Inose to collaborate on the case — an offer Inose flatly rejects, declaring, "I just need to catch the culprit, no matter what."

A mysterious man wearing a headset and listening to the bizarre sound of bones breaking also appears in the footage. His identity is left hanging, one more thread in a case that keeps widening on both sides of the border.

A main poster was released alongside the trailer, showing Kim Seok and Inose in intense poses against signage from Japan and Korea that hints at the cross-border joint investigation. Citizens draped in the South Korean flag and wearing red cheering outfits evoke the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, and the poster carries the tagline, "Brutal murders across borders, the twisted truth awaits."

Those World Cup details do more than decorate the poster. The red cheering outfits and the flags point to the tournament Korea and Japan co-hosted in 2002, raising the question of how far back this case really goes — and whether the twisted truth the tagline promises has been waiting more than two decades to surface.

Three more figures circle the case. Kim Shin-rock plays Lee Yoon-ok, a businesswoman of Korean descent living in Japan, Jung Jae-young plays Seo Hyun-tae, a powerful figure in Japan's underworld, and Choi Sung-eun plays Yoon Soo-kyung, a National Intelligence Service agent who is at odds with Inose. How each of them leans on the investigation — from inside the law, outside it, or somewhere in between — is set up as one of the series' central questions.
