Rockstar Games’ ex-developer claims that GTA 6’s currently unannounced PC version might take slightly longer than the console versions. The internet was overtaken by a storm of excitement earlier this week when Rockstar finally decided to release the first trailer for their much-anticipated GTA 6 title, which revealed the game’s protagonists, setting, and a 2025 release window.

It’s safe to say that the general reviews surrounding the trailer were positive, with much of the discussions focusing on the game’s breathtaking graphics and compelling storyline of a couple similar to the Bonnie-Clyde duo carrying out a crime wave in modern-day Vice City. Although many players are hyped to see another entry arrive in the GTA series, not everything featured in the trailer was received well.

Fans were quick to notice that the trailer only confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, PC owners are forced to wonder when the game might be released on their systems as well. In the past, Rockstar Games has released PC ports of GTA games many months or even an entire year after their console versions arrived.

Not only this, but many GTA 6 leaks also claimed before the trailer’s launch that history might just repeat itself. Mike York, a former Rockstar Games animator, revealed in a couple of reaction videos on his YouTube channel that GTA 6 will launch on PC much later than consoles. York has worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 before leaving the company in 2017.

He thinks Rockstar Games might be focusing and working on “pushing the limits” of current-gen consoles before moving towards GTA 6’s PC version. York was also pretty impressed by the graphics shown in the trailer, especially in the scene where plenty of NPCs can be seen doing their unique actions on the beach. He claims that as compared to most video games the background characters in GTA 6 look quite impressive.

He believes that this is a promising sign of how the upcoming GTA game might turn out once it launches in 2025. York also said that everything featured in the game’s trailer was in-game footage instead of the pre-rendered cutscenes that trailers usually use.

When is GTA 6’s PC version expected to come out?

From the looks of it, GTA 6 might just test the boundaries of modern consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, leading to a much later release date for the game’s PC version. However, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary when it comes to Rockstar Games titles since GTA 5’s PC port came out a whole year and a half after its console versions.

Moreover, Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn’t released on PC until a year after its initial release on consoles. Based on this information, PC owners might expect GTA 6 to arrive on their system of choice by 2026 or 2027. Unfortunately, we’ll just have to wait and see when that might be. For now, we know that GTA 6 is all set to launch on consoles sometime during 2025.
