A24’s live-action adaptation of Bandai Namco Entertainment’s acclaimed video game Elden Ring, shaping up to be one of the studio’s most ambitious theatrical undertakings yet, has filled out its ensemble cast as principal photography gets underway under the direction of Alex Garland, with a release date set for March 3, 2028.

The film is being released by A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment, with production currently underway and filming taking place in the IMAX format to capture the epic scope of the source material. This partnership combines A24's reputation for bold, auteur-driven cinema with Bandai Namco's deep roots in the gaming universe, promising a faithful yet cinematic interpretation of the beloved title.

Additional cast members joining the production include Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz. These performers join an already impressive lineup featuring Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny, with Nick Offerman also part of the ensemble. The expanded call sheet suggests a rich tapestry of characters drawn from the game's expansive lore, potentially bringing both familiar figures and new interpretations to life on screen.

Peter Rice will produce the film in collaboration with Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis. This producing team brings together experienced hands from both Hollywood and the world of high fantasy storytelling, with Martin's involvement particularly noteworthy given his contributions to the game's narrative foundations.

Elden Ring was originally released in February 2022 by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Developed under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the action role-playing game quickly became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its challenging gameplay, vast open world, and atmospheric storytelling. It achieved massive commercial success, selling millions of copies worldwide, and stood out for its critical reception. The title won over 400 total Game of the Year awards across various media outlets and gaming publications, cementing its status as one of the most decorated video games in history.

The plot of Elden Ring unfolds in a mythical realm known as the Lands Between. It centers on a powerful artifact called the Elden Ring that has been shattered, throwing the entire world into a state of war and chaos. Players take on the role of a customizable character known as the Tarnished, who must navigate treacherous landscapes, battle formidable foes, and ultimately work to restore the fractured Elden Ring in an effort to bring order back to the fractured domain.
