Darth Maul growls a promise of revenge in the new trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, pulling viewers into a galaxy reshaped by the Empire’s iron grip. Lucasfilm’s intense preview thrusts audiences into the shadowy underworld where the former Sith Lord schemes to reclaim power after the Jedi Order’s fall.

Following his humbling defeat by Darth Sidious in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Maul is depicted alone, driven by an unquenchable thirst for vengeance as he rebuilds his power to challenge the burgeoning Empire. The new trailer unleashes a flurry of high-stakes action: ferocious lightsaber clashes, Imperial Inquisitors like the Crow (Eleventh Brother) and the elusive Marrok hunting their targets, and relentless pursuits across desolate landscapes. The story centers on the remote planet Janix—a world seemingly beyond the Empire’s full reach—where Maul plots to rebuild his shattered criminal empire from the wreckage of his past.

The trailer teases tense alliances and potential betrayals as Maul forms an uneasy partnership with disillusioned young Jedi Padawan Devon Izara and her battle-hardened Master Eeko-Dio Daki, survivors on the run after Order 66. Maul offers them the power to dismantle the Empire, though his trustworthiness remains in question amid the shadows. Explosive battles, shadowy chases, and Maul’s unwavering devotion to the dark side surge toward a fiery climax, ending with the series title Maul – Shadow Lord blazing across the screen. The animation delivers vivid menace, from Maul’s piercing yellow eyes to the searing glow of his double-bladed lightsaber.

A striking new poster released alongside the trailer amplifies the series’ ominous atmosphere. Maul’s scowling face commands the center, lit by the dramatic flare of his red lightsaber slashing through the frame. Surrounding him in dynamic poses are key characters: young Jedi Padawan Devon Izara with her blue blade raised, resolute Master Eeko-Dio Daki, battle-ready Mandalorian Rook Kast, Zabrak brothers Icarus and Scorn, and cunning scoundrel Looti Vario.

Police detective Captain Brander Lawson stands with his loyal droid Two-Boots and young son Rylee, adding personal stakes. A massive Star Destroyer looms in the background, emphasizing the Empire’s inescapable shadow. The palette of deep reds, blazing oranges, and inky blacks conveys impending doom and the allure of the dark side.

The voice cast brings these characters to life with exceptional talent. Sam Witwer returns as Maul, delivering the same brooding intensity fans know from prior Star Wars animated series. Gideon Adlon voices Devon Izara, Wagner Moura lends gravitas to Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade adds wit to Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert embodies Master Eeko-Dio Daki, and Chris Diamantopoulos portrays Looti Vario. The ensemble also includes Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David W. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus.

The creative team draws from deep Star Wars roots. Created by Dave Filoni and inspired by George Lucas’s original characters, the series was developed by Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau as supervising director. Executive producers include Dave Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes, with Alex Spotswood as co-executive producer. Their collaboration ensures a story rich in lore, action, and character depth.
