Star Wars has been focusing on their Disney Plus shows for the last half decade and it is finally underway to making new movies for the franchise after its last release. The upcoming Star Wars movie will mark the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker from the sequel trilogy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, co-director of Ms. Marvel, was tapped to helm the film. The director commented that it is about time for the franchise to have a woman-shaped Star Wars movie and the film faced criticisms early on from this statement.

Star Wars is coming back to the movie scene with Daisy Ridley returning to the franchise to lead a film which is rumored to be titled as either "A New Beginning" or New Jedi Order. The film is set 15 years after Rise of Skywalker which means that chaos is all around after the First order and she aims to fulfill her promise to Luke on rebuilding the Jedi Order. However, even if the film is not yet in production, it is already facing a controversy about feminism.

Daisy Ridley's Star Wars movie will mark her return as Rey Skywalker in the franchise years after her last appearance in the sequel trilogy and this will be helmed by Ms. Marvel co-director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The director was excited to share some thoughts on her upcoming movie speaking with CNN about finally having a woman-shaped Star Wars movie where she said:

I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.

This comment was supposed to entice the fans on what the upcoming movie of Star Wars has to offer but surprisingly, there were some fans that did not take the comment lightly as if being offended that the film could be "woke" and some even said that it would flop. Check the comments below:

X user @MattWalshBlog says that the movie is "Disney's biggest flop yet."

@EndWokeness says that Disney is handing over the franchise to a "Pakistani feminist activist."

@ShiraDinal_ called feminism "a disease."

Wokeness and feminism are what @Twiddiot1776 blames in saying "RIP, #StarWars"

@redsteeze says that the argument of having a women not shaping a Star Wars story is an insult to other women who worked on previous projects.

A call to the shareholders of Star Wars is what @S_OReilly_USA did as he says the franchise is dead.

@CptCaldwell says Star Wars is ruined.

The director is yet to comment on the matter. These comments from fans point to feminism and "wokeness" being the reason behind the controversy but it is rooted out of context with the director pertaining to herself as the first woman of color to direct a Star Wars film. There is, in no way, a disregard on the works of other women who were behind other Star Wars projects.
