Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, discussed a possible return to the mutant during San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026. The 29-year-old actor confirmed she has spoken with filmmakers about bringing the character back as Marvel Studios moves quickly on casting its 2028 X-Men movie. X-Men: Apocalypse was Condor’s first film acting credit, and that early role now sits against a reboot already filling out a new team.
The Direct caught Condor at SDCC while she was promoting Coyote vs. Acme, which opens Friday, August 28, and asked whether anyone had approached her about slipping back into Jubilee’s yellow jacket. She left little room for doubt: “I would love nothing more than to come back as Jubilation Lee. That's all I've been hearing, but no real conversations... I've talked to the filmmakers and been like, 'Hey, listen, I'm 10 years older now. I know more. Bring me back.' So we'll see.”
Marvel Studios is building an entirely new lineup of mutants for the MCU instead of carrying over the Fox era roster. That choice leaves former X-Men: Apocalypse players like Condor on the outside of the official first wave, even as she has already flagged her interest to the people making the reboot.
Marvel Studios has confirmed the first wave of casting for the 2028 X-Men movie, placing Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury, Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. Those names mark a clean break from earlier live-action versions while locking in several of the team’s most familiar comic identities.
Interest in the project has only grown since D23, where Marvel unveiled a comic-accurate logo, named Jake Schreier as director, and introduced that initial group of actors. The presentation framed the movie as a full-scale relaunch rather than a continuation of any prior timeline.
Sadie Sink’s surprise debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day already put the new mutant era on screen before the standalone film arrives. That cameo now sits alongside the official confirmation that she will lead the 2028 story as Jean.
Adam Driver lands in that same first wave as Nathaniel Milbury, the alias Marvel is using for Mister Sinister, and the reveal carries real weight because the studio spent years trying to get him into the MCU. Marvel finally closed that pursuit with a dark comic role opposite Sink’s Jean Grey, and the excitement around Driver playing Mister Sinister now sits at the center of the reboot’s villain casting.
Kevin Feige has already said the first wave is incomplete, with Beast, Iceman, Angel, Magneto, Wolverine, and Jubilee still uncast and more names still to come. Condor’s pitch to those filmmakers now sits against that open roster, a decade after X-Men: Apocalypse and with a sharper case that she knows the character better than she did at 19.
The new X-Men film is dated for theaters on May 5, 2028, giving Marvel more than a year and a half to decide whether Jubilation Lee belongs in that next announcement. Until then, Condor’s SDCC comments remain the clearest public signal that she has already asked the reboot team to let her finish the job.
