Netflix has released the official trailer for Bass X Machina, putting Brian Tyree Henry's Bass in the middle of a steampunk frontier overrun by outlaws, machines and supernatural terrors. Henry voices a father and lawman whose mechanical arm and revolver are all that stand between his family and a West where justice is personal — judge, jury and executioner when the law runs out.
The animated limited series premieres on November 3, 2026. The footage leans into the genre mashup: revolver shootouts against steam-powered war machines, frontier towns under supernatural threat, and a hero who protects his family the only way the territory allows.

Henry leads the voice cast as Bass. Janelle Monáe plays Glory and also performs the series' theme song, "HONOR KiLLING." Tati Gabrielle voices Dana, while Cree Summer plays Ahni and Chaske Spencer plays Lighthorse. Currie Graham voices Rivenbark, and Starletta DuPois rounds out the cast as Etta.
The series comes from creator LeSean Thomas, who executive produces alongside Henry, Jennifer Wiley-Moxley and Chad Handley. Thomas is one of the most distinctive voices in Western animation — a veteran of The Boondocks who went on to create Cannon Busters and direct Yasuke for Netflix, consistently fusing anime technique with Black American storytelling. Animation is handled by Studio Mir, the Seoul-based studio behind The Legend of Korra, Devil May Cry and X-Men '97, with music by Roman GianArthur and Nate Wonder.
The historical Bass Reeves earned his legend the hard way: born into slavery, he escaped during the Civil War and went on to serve as a deputy U.S. marshal out of Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he was credited with thousands of arrests across a 32-year career in Indian Territory. Bass X Machina takes that foundation — the lone lawman riding into lawless country — and rebuilds it with steam-powered war machines, cybernetic limbs and supernatural horrors layered over the frontier.
What is Bass X Machina about?
Bass X Machina is an adult animated limited series that reimagines the American frontier as a lawless steampunk West. Its hero is inspired by Bass Reeves, the real-life lawman who became one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi — here recast as a father fighting outlaws, machines and things that should not exist to keep his family alive.
In a lawless Steampunk West overrun by brutal outlaws, machines, and supernatural terrors, a father is forced to become judge, jury, and executioner — knowing that every act of justice meant to protect his family may ultimately cost him the very people he's fighting to save.
Bass X Machina runs six episodes, and the limited series premieres on November 3, 2026, only on Netflix.
