Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Releases a Surprise Prequel Music Video

Night City is not done with Weak Kingsley yet, as a surprise prequel fills in the past Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 only hinted at.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has added a piece of its story that the season itself never showed, in the form of a surprise prequel music video. The full video, built around the song Watson by Petite Meller featuring Oslo Green, tells a chapter of Weak Kingsley's past set before the events of the series.

The video was released on the official Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel, and the official announcement bills it as "a love story caught between chrome and romance." It follows Weak's first meeting with Avida, showing their early days together and how the two fell in love.

That framing gives the short a heavier edge for anyone who has finished the season, since it fills in the life Weak had before Night City closed in on him. What reads as a romance in the video plays very differently once viewers know where his story ends up.

Weak was designed as a deliberate mirror of the first season's lead, with showrunner Bartosz Sztybor conceiving him as a reverse version of David Martinez. Where David had nothing and gained everything, Weak starts with everything and loses it, and the prequel leans straight into that contrast.

The anime is produced by Studio TRIGGER, with Sztybor serving as showrunner for the second season. The music video arrives as an extra piece of storytelling rather than a new episode, expanding a character the season introduced this year.

A shorter vertical cut of the video was also released alongside the full version, giving the song a second, bite-sized edit. Between the two cuts, the release works as both a character piece for Weak and a fresh entry point for viewers who have not started the season yet.

The drop also keeps the season in the conversation months after its debut, which matters for a show built around self-contained stories. Each new crew has to win Night City over again, and small releases like this one are how the series keeps its newest faces in front of the audience.

What is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 about?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is an action, sci-fi and cyberpunk anime set in Night City, the world of CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The first season, released in 2022, followed David Martinez and closed his story, so the second season tells a standalone tale with a new crew of characters, including Weak Kingsley, across 10 episodes.

Netflix describes the series as follows:

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 pulls you back into Night City, where lives become entangled to the extreme. Weak, a washed-up cyberpunk legend, is now forced to live without chrome as he searches for a sense of purpose in a world that's passed him by. Meanwhile, the deadly nomad D sets out on a path to revenge that brings him close to corpo secrets never meant to be found. Across this ten-episode standalone series, uncover a story of family, obsession, legacy — and how your lens reflects the stories of the people around you.
