Cyberpunk: Edgerunners returned to Netflix after four years, but the sequel isn’t matching the original’s near-flawless reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, the new season sits 20 points below the first with critics and 31 points below it with audiences. It’s still a positive response, just a far cry from the original’s flawless critical run.
Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the 10-episode season premiered on October 20, 2026, with every episode dropping at once. Here’s where the scores stand and what critics are saying.
As of October 25, 2026, at 14:48 UTC, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 holds an 80% Tomatometer score from 10 reviews. Eight are fresh and two are rotten, with an average rating of 7.7 out of 10. The season has no Critics Consensus yet.
The audience side is where the drop really shows. The Popcornmeter sits at 65% from more than 250 ratings, with an average of 3.6 out of 5 stars. Both numbers are based on small samples so soon after release, so they could still move in either direction.
How Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Compares to Season 1
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 1 still holds a perfect 100% Tomatometer score from 16 reviews, with an average rating of 8.9 out of 10. Its Popcornmeter is 95% from more than 2,500 ratings. The 2022 season premiered on September 13 and has not received a single rotten review on the site.
The first season also earned a Critics Consensus that calls it “an exceptionally stylish anime adaptation of the world Cyberpunk established.” Combined, the show now has a 90% series-wide Tomatometer score from 26 reviews and an 80% Popcornmeter. That means the new season is pulling the franchise’s overall audience number down noticeably.

|---|---|---|

Average critic rating | 8.9/10 | 7.7/10 |

What Critics Are Saying About Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2
Most critics still like what they see. GamesRadar+ gave the season 4 out of 5 stars and called it “a worthy follow-up to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” praising its “ambitious ensemble story” and “retina-melting animation.” ComicBook.com went even further with a perfect score.
In its review, ComicBook.com wrote that the season “comes to such a satisfying end that it feels like the perfect button on this entire anime franchise.” Audiences are more divided than critics. Some user reviews on the site complain about thin character development, while others praise the animation, music and new characters.
What is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 about?
The new season is a standalone story with an all-new cast of characters. It’s set in the same Night City from Cyberpunk 2077, but it doesn’t continue David Martinez’s story. Instead, it follows a washed-up legend, a nomad hunting a killer and two young people caught in the city’s violence.
Weak, once known as King, is a veteran edgerunner now living without chrome and looking for purpose. D, a Snake Nation netrunner, hunts the killer who wiped out his clan and gets close to corporate secrets. Roman is a young cinephile documenting real stories in a city obsessed with braindance, while Talia is a corpo kid turned Maelstrom gang member.
Who are in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 cast?
The season features an entirely new voice cast in both Japanese and English. Clancy Brown leads the English dub as Weak, while Kentaro Tone voices him in Japanese. Here are the four main characters and their voice actors.
Character | Japanese Voice | English Voice |
|---|---|---|
Weak Kingsley | Kentaro Tone | Clancy Brown |
D | Koki Uchiyama | Nazeeh Tarsha |
Roman Carax | Momoka Terasawa | Valeria Rodriguez |
Talia Yang | Akari Kito | Kimoy Lee |
The Japanese supporting cast includes Akemi Okamura as Talia’s mother, Avida, and Yasunori Matsumoto as her father, Kiril. Takashi Matsuyama voices braindance dealer Sal, Miho Okasaki plays his engineer Jessie, and Nobuo Tobita plays Arasaka’s Kitano. Naoya Uchida rounds out the group as Kang Tao corpo Richard.
Who made Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2?
CD Projekt Red and Japanese studio Trigger return as co-creators, and Kai Ikarashi directs the new installment. Kanno Ichigo is the lead character designer. Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer, with Masahiko Otsuka also back on the writing side.
The game side is getting a boost too. CD Projekt Red announced the free Edgerunners 2 Update, also called Update 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It brings content inspired by the new season, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following later.
Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 still worth watching?
An 80% Tomatometer score is still a fresh, positive result, and most critics recommend the season. The gap mostly reflects how high Season 1 set the bar with its perfect critic score. Fans of Night City’s style and action are still getting plenty of it.
The real question is whether audiences warm up to Weak, D, Roman and Talia the way they did to David and Lucy. With only a few hundred ratings in so far, the 64% Popcornmeter is far from settled. If word of mouth around the finale catches on, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 could still close some of the distance on its predecessor.
