Anime Expo 2025, North America’s largest anime convention, is set to welcome the creative minds behind the highly acclaimed Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX for a special event that promises to thrill Gundam fans. Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. announced today that the event, taking place on Thursday, July 3, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, will feature a screening of the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- followed by an exclusive talk session with key staff members.
The event marks a significant moment for the Gundam franchise, as GQuuuuuuX represents a groundbreaking collaboration between Sunrise and Studio Khara, the studio known for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, with series supervision by Yōji Enokido and character designs by Take Mechani, the series has been praised for its fresh take on the Gundam universe, blending classic themes with innovative storytelling.
Attendees will have the chance to hear from director Kazuya Tsurumaki, whose work on FLCL and Evangelion has earned him a dedicated following, alongside other key contributors to the series. The talk session will offer behind-the-scenes insights into the creation of GQuuuuuuX, which has captivated audiences with its alternate timeline reimagining of the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam. The series follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high-school student turned Gundam pilot under the alias “Machu,” as she navigates the underground world of Clan Battle, a thrilling mobile suit dueling sport.
Adding to the excitement, the event will feature a live music performance, with details to be streamed on the Gundam Channel for fans unable to attend in person. Special guests include Tomoyo Kurosawa, the voice actress for Machu, joining the panel.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX has been a standout in the 2025 anime season, streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video since April 8. Its visually stunning animation, compelling characters, and nods to the original Gundam series have drawn comparisons to iconic entries like Zeta Gundam and Iron-Blooded Orphans. The theatrical release of GQuuuuuuX -Beginning in Japan grossed over 1.9 billion yen (approximately US$12.55 million), underscoring the series’ massive popularity.
Anime Expo 2025, held from July 3 to July 6, continues to be a premier destination for anime fans, and this GQuuuuuuX event is poised to be a highlight of the convention. Fans can also look forward to a similar event at Japan Expo 2025 in Paris, where Tsurumaki, Enokido, and Mahiro Maeda (design works and storyboard) will share the stage from July 3 to July 6.
