Adam Devine is taking back his previous statement about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is killing comedy films. The star of The Righteous Gemstones had previously made comments about Marvel's comic book movies "ruined it" for comedy. Since then, Devine clarified what he truly meant to say about the MCU.
Earlier this week, several outlets reported about Adam Devine's controversial comments saying "Marvel ruined it" for comedy films. "I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to the theater and you expect to watch something that cost $200 million to make, and comedy movies aren’t that," Devine had said during an episode of This Past Week podcast. Since the reports, people have reacted negatively toward the actor, and it didn't take long before he decided to clarify his statement.
Devine took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his real thoughts. He retweeted a post that shared a report about his statement, explaining how the headline was "misleading."

"I like Marvel and think these movies are cool. I was saying that studios (in trying to compete with Marvel) have stopped making mid budget comedies. I miss seeing comedy in the theaters!" Devine wrote.
We can't really blame Adam Devine for wanting to see more comedy films in the cinema. It has been a while since a comedy was a box office hit, and the big-budget comic book movies have been on a roll. On the other hand, the lack of comedies in theaters might also have something to do with a shortage of new ideas and material to work on. It's the direct opposite of the MCU, which continues to churn out content every year.
Adam Devine's most recent film is the comedy The Out-Laws, which he produced with fellow comedian Adam Sandler. The movie was released in July and was met with mixed reviews. Meanwhile, the next MCU film is The Marvels, which hits theaters on November 10, 2023
