Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced a lot of new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also left out one character who played an important role in the first film. However, it looks like the sequel almost featured Karl Mordo, but his scenes were removed from the final cut. Luckily, a rejected poster for the MCU flick finally reveals what Mordo would have looked like in the movie.
First things first, Doctor Strange 2 did feature Karl Mordo. However, the Variant that appeared in The Multiverse of Madness was actually from Earth-838, where he is the Sorcerer Supreme and a member of the elite Illuminati. Unfortunately, the Earth-616 Variant who appeared in the 2016 movie was nowhere to be found, although he was expected to play a larger role in the sequel.
As it turns out, Chiwetel Ejiofor was originally meant to reprise his role as Earth-616 Mordo in Doctor Strange 2. However, his scenes were deleted, and Ejiofor's only appearance in the film was as the Earth-838 Variant. Still, the Scarlet Witch X (formerly Twitter ) fan account has uncovered a rejected poster for The Multiverse of Madness and it shows Earth-616 Mordo.
It's an interesting find considering that fans never got to learn what happened to the original Mordo (that's Earth 616 Mordo) after he lost his trust in the Ancient One and chose to leave behind his life as a sorcerer. Still, it was great to see another Mordo Variant in Doctor Strange 2 and satisfying to know that Scarlet Witch did not kill Variant. Perhaps, this means we'll get to see him again in future MCU projects.
But what are the chances fans will get to see a third Doctor Strange film? The sequel certainly teased the future as it introduced a mysterious sorceress in the post-credits film. For now, Marvel Studios has not yet made an official announcement, but check this page for new updates.
