Netflix has released the main trailer and key art for 10DANCE, an upcoming film that transforms the competitive world of ballroom and Latin dance into a stage for rivalry, passion, and unexpected intimacy. Directed by Keishi Otomo and adapted from Inouesatoh’s award-winning manga, the project reunites actors Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida on screen after nearly eight years. The film is scheduled to stream worldwide exclusively on Netflix starting December 18, 2025.

The newly unveiled trailer opens with sweeping shots of polished dance floors and precise footwork, immediately establishing the high-stakes atmosphere of professional competition. Takeuchi portrays Shinya Suzuki, Japan’s reigning Latin dance champion and a perfectionist driven by local dominance. Machida, in turn, embodies Shinya Sugiki, the country’s ballroom champion and the world’s No. 2 ranked dancer, nicknamed “Emperor” for his commanding presence. The two leads—both named Shinya—collide when Sugiki issues an audacious challenge: enter the 10-Dance, a grueling event that fuses Latin and ballroom disciplines.

Supporting the central duo are Shiori Doi as Aki Tajima, Suzuki’s dedicated Latin partner, and Anna Ishii as Fusako Yagami, Sugiki’s refined ballroom counterpart. The ensemble is rounded out by Shinya Hamada, Oshiro Maeda, Nadiya Bychkova, Susie Trayling, and Pasquale La Rocca. Behind the camera, Otomo (Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, The Legend & Butterfly) collaborates with screenwriter Tomoko Yoshida, composer Masaru Yokoyama, cinematographer Tatsunosuke Sasaki, and a full production team from Episcope Inc.

Months of intensive dance training enabled Takeuchi and Machida to execute complex routines with authenticity. The trailer intercuts technical sequences—sharp spins, fluid lifts, synchronized extensions—with quieter moments of eye contact and shared breath, suggesting a shift from antagonism to mutual reliance. Key art reinforces this dynamic, capturing the actors mid-motion in a tableau that balances tension and harmony.

Production credits include production design by Eri Sakushima and Takuro Kato, supervising character and costume design by Isao Tsuge, lighting by Gaku Suzuki, editing by Tomomi Kikuchi, sound design by Kazuyuki Ishii, sound recording by Takeshi Kawamata, VFX supervision by Tetsuya Shiraishi, and casting by Mai Sugiyama. Ai Shimoda serves as ballroom dance supervisor. Producers Takako Miyauchi and Kota Ishizuka oversee the project, with Tomo Koizumi as line producer.

What is 10 Dance about?

The film adapts 10 DANCE, a manga by Inouesatoh serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. Launched in 2011, the series earned acclaim for its detailed depiction of competitive dance and its exploration of interpersonal tension, culminating in the “This BL Is Amazing! 2019” award.

Netflix’s official description of 10DANCE film reads:

The story follows two men: Shinya Suzuki (Ryoma Takeuchi), Japan’s Latin dance champion, and Shinya Sugiki (Keita Machida), often called ‘Emperor,’ Japan’s ballroom dance champion and ranked second in the world. One day, Sugiki appears before Suzuki and proposes that the two of them become champions of the 10 Dance: an extremely demanding competition that requires both physical and mental fortitude, as participants must master 10 styles of dance — five Latin and five ballroom — and perform them all in a single day. Suzuki and Sugiki commence training at Sugiki Dance School accompanied by their respective dance partners, Aki Tajima (Shiori Doi) and Fusako Yagami (Anna Ishii). The two men clash as a result of their conflicting lifestyles and personalities, yet as they begin to understand each other’s style of dance, they find themselves drawn closer to one another.
