X-Men ‘97 Episode 7, Bright Eyes, made a big reveal about the real villain of the series after finally introducing Bastion. But though it was the first time he was seen in action, he had been part of the revival all along. The latest Episode 8, Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 1, unveiled his backstory and gave a glimpse of his past. Now, show creator Beau DeMayo revealed the surprising connection of the villain’s parents to X-Men: The Animated Series.

After X-Men ‘97 Episode 8 dropped on Wednesday on Disney+, DeMayo shared a couple of posts of Bastion’s parents on X (formerly Twitter). He then mentioned the two-part One Man’s Worth story arc of X-Men: The Animated Series Season 4, where his mother and father actually appeared.

“Bastion’s Mama (One Man’s Worth),” “Birds, Bees, and Bastions,” and “Now look at that,” his tweets read.

DeMayo’s tweets feature the images of Bastion’s unnamed mom and dad. One post also shows a man, who was believed to be Bastion’s father, with Wolverine while they’re inside a bar. This is seen as the reason why the showrunner asked fans to watch One Man’s Worth before the reboot’s three-episode first-season finale began.

The Appearance of Bastion’s Parents in X-Men: The Animated Series Explored

Surprisingly, before Bastion’s backstory was revealed in X-Men ‘97 Episode 8, his mom and dad had already appeared in X-Men: The Animated Series. They were part of the storyline where Bishop, his sister Shard, and a married Wolverine and Storm worked together to prevent Nimrod and Master Mold from assassinating Charles Xavier from a different reality.

It was set in 1959 when Xavier was still a student. The group tried to contact Xavier at a townie bar and caused a small riot due to the presence of black people and an interracial couple, a detrimental issue at the time.

As it turned out, Bastion’s mom was the waitress who served Bishop and his group in the bar. His dad, on the other hand, was the janitor who donned a leather jacket and whom Wolverine helped during the bar fight. It was also revealed that some of the surviving parts of Nimrod’s tech during that era infected Bastion’s father, resulting in the creation of a human-Sentinel hybrid. So, when Bastion was born, he had corrupted DNA that made him a human-Sentinel hybrid.
