Spider-Man Universe expands in a standalone film that could connect four powerful women in an ensemble against a common foe. The franchise introduces a bunch of new heroes in the upcoming Madame Web movie and all of them are featured in the trailer released for the film which showed a glimpse of what to expect in the flick. From the pages of Marvel comics to the big screens, Madame Web gets a live-action adaptation that could bring universes together.
Are you ready for another team of women who will be on a quest to save the world and possibly the universe? Check out the four Spider-Man heroines in Madame Web!
1 Madame Web/ Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson)

Dakota Johnson plays the titular Madame Web/ Cassandra Webb who is presented as a New York City paramedic. In the trailer, it was previewed how she nearly died in an accident and from there, her powers may have been triggered to manifest. It was also hinted how her mother was involved with the research on radioactive spiders with the villain, Ezekiel "Zeke" Sims. Her web is expected to connect all other Spider-Man heroines in a race against time.
In the comics, there are notable differences with the movie version of the character. Cassandra is a mutant in the comics who was born blind with the power of clairvoyance and precognition. She later became Madame Web who is an elderly woman attached to a life support with other abilities that include telepathy, astral projection, mind alteration, and psychic surgery. She also possesses the "Web of Life and Death" which could connect Madame Web to the MCU as using such allows one to access any reality or point in time.
2 Spider-Woman II/ Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney)

Sydney Sweeney suits up as Spider-Woman II in Madame Web. Also known as Julia Carpenter, she is seen in the trailer as one of the women that Cassandra encounters. She seems hesitant to be part of the group but later becomes one lethal character who will go up against the villain of the movie. At a point, her web even glows.
Julia Carpenter, in Marvel Comics, was from an organization called as the Commission who were trying to make their very own superhero. Carpenter joined the study which she though was an athletics research but she later discovered that she was one of the test subject where she was injected with spider venom which gave her similar powers as that of Spider-Man but with psionic beams into her webs.
She became Spider-Woman II, with her number making a distinction between Jessica Drew who was the first one to become Spider-Woman, and the others after her. Also, she became the successor of Madame Web as before the latter died, she passed her psychic powers to Julia.
3 Spider-Woman III/ Mattie Franklin (Celeste O'Connor)

Aside from Julia Carpenter, another character gets to be Spider-Woman with Mattie Franklin, played by Celeste O'Connor. The trailer shows her iconic Spider-Man-like claws, similar to what Tom Holland's Spider-Man had in Infinity War and Endgame. She is among the three women that Madame Web will bring with her as they go up against Zeke Sims.
Marvel Comics introduced Mattie Franklin as the niece of J. Jonah Jameson. She became Spider-Woman III after the ritual called as the Gathering of 5 where she got similar powers to Spider-Man. She was the successor of Jessica Drew, the first Spider-Woman. Her ability of having self-propelled flight distinguishes her from other Spider-Women.
4 Anya Corazon/ Spider-Girl (Isabela Merced)

The youngest and the final member of the group found by Madame Web in the movie is Anya Corazon who later becomes Spider-Girl. She will be portrayed by Isabela Merced. The trailer reveals that she lives in the same apartment complex as that of Cassandra which shows that she is not far from Cassandra's reach.
In the comics, Anya Corazon started her stint as Araña after being chosen as a Spider Society initiate where she got her abilities like that of Spider-Man after Miguel Legar transferred some of his life force into her. Jessica Drew called her Spider-Girl, thus, her new moniker. Making her different from other Spider-Women, Spider-Girl has the ability to camouflage in the shadows.
The titular Madame Web brings all these Spider-Man heroines all together as she stops Zeke Sims from preventing their becoming as heroes like Spider-Man and she is expected to lead the pack with her visions of both the past and the future.
See all of them make their way to the big screens on February 14, 2023 in Madame Web.
