Netflix confirmed last year that Hellbound Season 2 is underway. Following the success of Squid Game in 2021, the American streaming giant scored another K-drama smash with Hellbound, a dark fantasy drama series. The show surpassed other popular releases, such as League of Legends animated series Arcane and Tiger King Season 2, to become Netflix's most-watched show the week it premiered.
For starters, Hellbound is based on show director Yeon Sang Ho's own webtoon series of the same name and is set in a world where apparitions appear before those accused of wrongdoing, pronouncing “decrees” of when they would be sentenced to hell. In the face of this revelation, two organizations—the cult-like New Truth Society led by Jung Jinsu and the militia-like Arrowhead group—collaborate to gain power by exploiting public fear of sinners being sent to hell.
The series was one of the most popular K-Dramas on Netflix in 2021, coming in second only to the worldwide sensation Squid Game. The show has received critical acclaim, with a 97% RottenTomatoes rating and multiple awards. As fans await more details, here is everything we know so far about the upcoming Hellbound Season 2.
Hellbound Season 2 Release Window: When is it coming to Netflix?

Since Hellbound debuted on Netflix over 11 months ago, there has been perfect silence regarding any word of a renewal. Initially, viewers were convinced that the series would not return for a second installment, but they were surprised to learn during the Netflix TUDUM event that Hellbound Season 2 is indeed happening.
Filming of the Hellbound Season 2 began in early August 2023, according to Netflix's K-Content account. As fans may have noticed from the casting adjustments, this has resulted in considerable delays, which is undoubtedly the main cause for the lengthy wait to begin production.
Furthermore, the series' director and creator, Yeon Sang Oh, has been busy with various projects for Netflix over the last year, including an adaptation of Parasyte and a new zombie horror series. To recall, Hellbound Season 1 filming began on September 17, 2020, and ended on January 18, 2021. So, it was a little over fourteen months between the start of filming and the Netflix release date.
This indicates that if we use fourteen months as a rough estimate, Hellbound Season 2 won't be available on Netflix for quite some time. Our current projection is that the forthcoming new installment will premiere between late 2024 and early 2025.

It was reported in March 2023 that lead actor Yoo Ah In, who is apparently under investigation by South Korean police for unlawful drug use, would be ousted from Hellbound Season 2. A Netflix spokeswoman later confirmed to NME that the Hellbound creators had decided to replace Yoo in the part of Jung Jinsu with Kim Sung Cheol, who previously worked on Arthdal Chronicles, Hospital Playlist, and Vincenzo.
In the same month, Netflix revealed that Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Shin Rok, Lee Dong Hee, Yang Ik Joon, and Lee Re will return for Hellbound Season 2. In addition, recurring or guest roles have been cast, including Yang Dong Geun of Cheer Up, Im Sung Jae of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Jo Dong In of Bad and Crazy, and Moon Geun Young of Catch the Ghost.

Prior to the Hellbound Season 2 announcement, a dramatic revelation that will forever affect the world occurred in the last moments of Season 1 when the ashes and remnants of Park Jung Ja joined together and resurrected the woman. The concept of the New Truth was shattered after several eyewitnesses saw what happened between Song So Hyun's baby, who lived despite being handed a decree, and his parents, who sacrificed themselves to preserve their newborn son.
Even more concerns will be raised about the New Truth as victims of the decrees, such as Park Jung Ja, begin to resurrect. However, if this means that former New Truth chairman Jung Jin Soo will be resurrected, fans wonder if he will use his newfound resurrection to propagate a new gospel in Hellbound Season 2.
With the New Truth and Arrowhead convincing the people that all individuals who were issued decrees are sinners, sinners being resurrected from hell itself would very certainly send civilization into a tailspin as the world tries to comprehend "God's" activities. In other words, Hellbound Season 2 may center on the unexpected reappearance of individuals sentenced to hell, beginning with Jeong Ja.
Because Kim Sung-cheol has been cast in the role, it's probable that the major character, Jinsu, will also return from the dead in Hellbound Season 2. Toughie survived a decree, and his parents, Young Jae and So Hyun, sacrificed themselves in his place. This development raises doubts about what the decrees actually imply and the ramifications of New Truth's worldview being torn apart.
Speaking to Variety, the show's creator admitted that with the Webtoon now covered, the original plans for Hellbound Season 2 will be scrapped, saying:
