Cobra Kai Season 6 is underway, but it has been officially delayed, and unfortunately, it is still going to be a while until the show returns to Netflix. The renowned nostalgia-filled sitcom last added new episodes in September 2022, and with no renewal announcement in sight, fans were becoming concerned. Fortunately, Netflix approved the series, and this season is being billed as the "biggest" and "baddest" ever.

For starters, Cobra Kai is a sequel offshoot to the famous Karate Kid films, starring many of the original cast members. Over 30 years after the previous film, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, respectively. The two have different opinions as dads than they had as children, yet they still butt heads now and then.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike since May 2023, which is when the sixth season was supposed to begin production. Then in July 2023, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) began their strike. So, even if the season’s scripts were finished, the actors would not be filming right now. As fans await more details, here is everything we know so far about the upcoming Cobra Kai Season 6.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Potential Release Date: When is it coming to Netflix?

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for Cobra Kai Season 6. Netflix announced the renewal of Cobra Kai for its sixth and final season on January 20, 2023. The delay in confirming Season 6 was due to the showrunners' involvement in another project, "Obliterated," which wrapped up filming in November 2022 and is expected to be released in 2023.

While initial conjecture suggested that Cobra Kai Season 6 will be released in late 2023, closing the writers' room might imply that the series would be delayed until 2024 or perhaps 2025. Writers have sworn to keep the rooms closed as long as discussions are ongoing.

According to the creative team, all of the scripts for Cobra Kai Season 6 have not yet been completed, thus, the program will not be able to conclude production until the strike has ended. Previously, new installments were accessible to stream roughly a year after they were filmed. While some Season 6 sequences were allegedly shot during the shooting of Season 5, there were not enough to fill a whole episode.

On January 20, 2023, series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg revealed the news in an official statement to fans. In a joint statement, the trio said:

"Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honour. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement," they continued. "The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai. While this may be bittersweet for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies."

Cobra Kai Season 6 Cast: Who are the actors starring in the upcoming season?

Cobra Kai Season 6 would be incomplete without our two protagonists, Johnny Lawrence, portrayed by William Zabka, and Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio. And they would be nothing without the two key ladies in their lives, Amanda LaRusso, portrayed by Courtney Henggeler, and Carmen, who is now pregnant, played by Vanessa Rubio.

Chozen Toguchi, portrayed by Yuji Okumoto, and John Kreese, played by Martin Kove, are both returning for Cobra Kai Season 6. Fans might not have seen the last of Terry Silver, portrayed by Thomas Ian Griffith, who doesn't go down without a fight and now has nothing to lose.

Speaking of Karate Kid returns, Hilary Swank, who portrayed Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid, may also appear in the upcoming Cobra Kai Season 6. Then there are the kids, primarily Xolo Mariduea as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby, Peyton List as Tory, Mary Mouser as Sam, Jacob Bertrand as Eli or Hawk, and Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri.

Sensei Kim Da-eun, played by Alicia Hannah-Kim, in particular, is on a quest to fulfill a vow to her father by winning the Sekai Taikai competition, and she is unlikely to be pleased with Silver's behavior. The actress shared with Deadline what may happen next for her character in Cobra Kai Season 6:

"Hopefully, we will continue what we've started in season 5 on Cobra Kai… I think they've opened a pandora's box with Kim Da-Eun and Master Kim Sun-Young. It really brought a darker element to this season and I'm curious what could happen now that Cobra Kai is ostensibly defeated. I do know Kim is hellbent on global domination for her family's legacy, so there's a lot yet to explore."

Cobra Kai Season 6 Plot: What is the upcoming season about?

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet released any official details about the plot of the forthcoming Cobra Kai Season 6. However, most, if not all, viewers are aware that the series follows Johnny Lawrence as he tries to rebuild his life following the events of The Karate Kid trilogy. To do this, he returns to his roots and trains Miguel Diaz, the new Cobra Kai's first student. The reappearance of Cobra Kai fuels Daniel's fire, as his high school bully and a source of his trauma have returned to haunt him, prompting him to open his own dojo.

Prior to the official Cobra Kai Season 6 announcement, fans saw Silver finally caught up by his misdeeds and his nasty attitude was ultimately revealed to his students after he was caught for cheating at the All-Valley competition, and they all abandoned him. On the other hand, Kenny, who had transformed from a sweet-natured geek to a cold-hearted bully under Silver's tutelage, will surely face this brunt.

Actor Dallas Dupree Young told Digital Spy about his sadness at being let down by Silver:

"Kenny's heartbroken. I mean, it was a gut-wrenching moment honestly, because his father figure [Silver] is his leader, the guy that he looked up to, his mentor, kind of betrayed him in a sense. And for Kenny to watch that video and see the evidence, it was just very disheartening. So I think Kenny is in a rough headspace. He doesn't really know where he wants to go at this point. But I can't wait to see what happens with him."

Ralph Macchio recently told Deadline that while filming for Cobra Kai Season 6 has yet to begin, and though he is aware of the main plot arc for the sixth and final installment, he still has not seen a script for it. He also discussed the highly anticipated Karate Kid movie, which is set to be released in 2024 and will be a reboot of the original film franchise.
