Top 5 Netflix K-Dramas Featuring Song Kang

Before fans see Song Kang again in the new K-drama My Demon, they can watch his other best K-dramas on Netflix.

Song Kang is about to return to Netflix with a new K-drama, My Demon, opposite Kim Yoo-Jung. But before this new series drops this month, we will enlist the top five K-dramas of the “Son of Netflx” himself on the streamer. Well, he will never be featured on the service for nothing, and his shows are all worth seeing.

From being a TV host on Inkigayo to becoming a part of Village Survival, Song Kang has been a prominent name in South Korea. He then manages to conquer the small screen with his great acting chops, making him a fixture on Netflix.

5 Nevertheless

Based on the webtoon of the same name published on Naver Webtoon, Nevertheless features a typical love story. It follows the Hongseo University students Yoo Na-Bi (Han So-Hee) and Park Jae-Eon (Song Kang). Despite being attracted to each other, they are both skeptical about love due to the past relationships they have experienced.

The series first aired on JTBC in 2021, while each episode was later released on Netflix in South Korea. Though the show failed to live up to its hype in its origin country, with its poor ratings and unpopular plot, many still love it.

4 Love Alarm

Based on the webtoon of the same name by Chon Kye-Young, Love Alarm tells the story of a high school girl who lives in a society greatly influenced by a mobile app. This app lets users know if someone in the area has romantic feelings for them. It's the first K-drama that Netflix picked up, featuring Song Kang, Jung Ga-Ram, and Kim So-Hyun in the lead.

Released in August 2019, it was one of Netflix’s top releases and was the sixth most-watched K-dramas worldwide in 2021. In 2022, it was the ninth most searched Korean drama globally.

3 Forecasting Love and Weather

Directed by Cha Young-Hoon, Song Kang played the role of Lee Shi-Woo, a reporter in charge of Special Reporting Division 2 in Forecasting Love and Weather. The series follows the story of the staff of a national weather service called the Korea Meteorological Administration. Like the weather, the series proves love is hard to predict.

Released on JTBC in February 2022, the show is now streaming on Netflix and is a great success. It was part of its Global Top 10 weekly list of the most-watched international Netflix TV series for six weeks. Aside from Song Kang, Forecasting Love and Weather also features Park Min-Young, Yoon Park, and Yura.

2 Sweet Home

Fans saw a different Song Kang in the South Korean apocalyptic-horror drama Sweet Home. Based on the Naver Webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-Chan, it tells the story of Cha Hyun-Soo, who moves to an apartment after a family tragedy. From there, monsters appear, trapping the people inside their apartments. Hyun-Soo and his neighbors then try to save themselves by keeping the building safe, hoping they can all survive.

Released in December 2020, Sweet Home gathered over 2.1 billion net views. Its second season will be released on December 1, 2023, while the third season is already in production. Aside from Song Kang, the show also stars Lee Jin-Wook and Lee Si-Young.

Based on the webtoon of the same name written by Hun and illustrated by Ji-Min, Navillera features the life of the 70-year-old retired mailman Shim Deok-Chul (Park In-Hwan), whose lifelong dream is to learn ballet. He then meets Lee Chae-Rok (Song Kang) at the dance academy. Due to financial difficulties, the latter plans to give up dancing, but everything changes when he sees Deok-Chul.

Released on tvN in Mach 2021, the show received rave reviews for featuring relatable issues of old age. Some even dubbed it the “best K-drama” of that year, thanks to its moving story and tearjerking scenes. Navillera is now available for streaming on Netflix.
