Since his first appearance in Thor, Loki has always been a fan-favorite. From the villain that he was to the hero that he became, the God of Mischief had one of the best character developments that the Marvel Cinematic Universe witnessed. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and Loki Season 2 may be the end of the line for Tom Hiddleston as he hints his retirement as Loki in the MCU.

Tom Hiddleston breathed life to Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He made his debut as the God of Mischief in 2011 and he continued to play the role with Loki Season 2 as his latest outing. However, Tom Hiddleston may have already hinted that his latest outing could be the last time everyone will see him as Loki. Speaking on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, Hiddleston refers to the finale of Loki Season 2 as the conclusion of his MCU journey:

It's the conclusion to Season 2, [and] it's also a conclusion to Seasons 1 and 2. It's also the conclusion to six films, and 12 episodes, and 14 years of my life... 14 years, I was 29 when I was cast. I'm 42 now. It's been a journey.

These words of Tom Hiddleston seemingly hints that he is finally putting the character to rest as Loki gets a full circle moment in the finale of Loki Season 2 finding his glorious purpose. The show ended with a doubt on whether Hiddleston would return in the MCU as the character takes a throne that he might never ever leave again. If that's the end of Loki in the MCU, it is a heartfelt way of leaving.

Being the God of Mischief, Loki started as a villain to his brother, Thor, as he continuously vied for the throne of Asgard. All he wanted was to be king, on the throne, but because Thor was there, Loki did not stand a chance. Loki went to be a full-on villain and took out his wrath on Earth in Avengers, but Thor believes in his brother's good heart underneath his mischievous nature and in the end, Thor was right all along. Loki became the hero that no one ever expected. He got his throne but now with a glorious purpose that would literally stand the test of time.

Loki Season 2 finale serves the glorious purpose of the God of Mischief to him as he embraces his new role in the multiverse -- the Yggdrasil, the tree of life. See, Loki always wanted a throne but that does not mean that the throne he will sit on would be in Asgard. Loki Season 2 gave Loki the throne at the end of time where he holds all the branches of the timeline together and brings his magic to keep it all alive. As he keeps all of life in existence, Loki remains in isolation at the end of time and he is content with it knowing that everyone will be alive because of him. Indeed, Loki became the hero he always wanted to be.
