Actor Thomas Haden Church recently shared a rumor he has heard about Sam Raimi allegedly directing his fourth Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire. Though nothing is confirmed about this claim, the Sideways star has already expressed interest in joining the film.

Church has played the role of Flint Marko, famously known as Sandman, in the two Spider-Man movies, Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and Marvel Studio’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. And if he has given a chance, he wants to reprise his role but in another Raimi-directed Spider-Man 4 with Maguire in the lead.

The Rumored Spider-Man 4 with Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire

In an interview with ComicBook’s Chris Killian, the 63-year-old revealed the rumors he had heard about Raimi doing another Spider-Man movie with Maguire. “If that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo," he said.

Raimi has been long attached to do another Spider-Man movie after directing the first Spider-Man trilogy from 2002 to 2007. However, the film has never happened. According to Deadline, the director hated the scripts, telling Sony that he couldn’t meet its release date and deliver a satisfying movie, eventually leading to a decision to leave the project and reboot the franchise.

Will Sam Raimi Return to Direct Spider-Man 4?

Despite Spider-Man 4’s cancellation and Raimi’s exit, the Evil Dead franchise’s director realized that a multiverse project like his directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would allow him and Maguire to continue what they left off. "I've come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups," he told Fandango last year.

He added:

I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don't really have a story or a plan. I don't know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don't know what their thoughts are about that. I haven't really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn't a Spider-Man movie, I'd love to work with Tobey again in a different role.

Raimi told Rolling Stone his love for his Spider-Man characters “hasn’t diminished one iota.” However, he would only do another Spider-Man movie if Maguire still wanted to do so; if there was an emotional arc for him; if there was a great conflict for the character; and if there would be a worthy villain that would fit the movie’s theme. If Marvel Studios works on these things, Raimi may helm another Spider-Man movie again.
