“We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back,” the filmmaking team behind Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse said at CinemaCon (via Variety) at Las Vegas. “So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.”

Though it'll take longer for Beyond the Spider-verse to release in theaters than originally planned, they promised that “it’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.”

Plot details for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse haven't been revealed, but it's expected to pick up where the second one left off. Miles Morales will likely face an existential threat, and the filmmaking team said that they're working on new animation techniques, and that the film be "bigger and bolder than the previous two films."

The footage revealed at CinemaCon showecased the trilogy's bold, stylized animation. Lord teased that the third film will begin with Miles Morales on the run as a fugitive from every other spider entity in the multiverse. Gwen Stacy and other Spidey friends also make brief appearances in the short teaser trailer that hasn't been shared to the public yet.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson and written by David Callam, Christopher Miller, and Phil Lord. Miller and Lord are also producing with Avi Arad, Jinko Gotoh, and Amy Pascal.
