Phase Four of the MCU introduced Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan and Teyonnah Parris’ Monica Rambeau as supers and they are set to join Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers in the newly-released movie, The Marvels. Also in the cast of the sequel with them is the What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and Itaewon Class actor Park Seo-joon whose fans rejoiced after the confirmation of his involvement in the film. But, who is he playing in the movie?
Park Seo-joon is one of the top-billed South Korean actors known for his various K-Dramas. Aside from the abovementioned shows, he also appeared in She Was Pretty, Fight For My Way, The Divine Fury, and Midnight Runners. However, in 2021, The Korea Times confirmed that the actor is making a jump into Hollywood as part of the latest MCU movie, The Marvels. In the same report, the talent agency of Park Seo-joon released a statement saying, “Park has confirmed his appearance in a Marvel Studios film and left the country this afternoon.”
The Marvels will follow Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau whose powers are intertwined. Carol Danvers has finally reclaimed her identity, however, due to a destabilized universe, she gets to experience an anomalous wormhole connected to a Kree revolutionary which makes her tangled with Kamala and Monica. With Park Seo-joon in the mix, here’s the character that he will be playing.
Who is Park Seo-joon Playing in The Marvels?
Park Seo-joon plays the role of Prince Yan D'Aladna in The Marvels, the royalty of planet Aladna. In the 2014 Captain Marvel #9 comics, Planet Aladna is a unique place with the people communicating only through songs. Prince Yan was set to marry Lila Cheney, a musician and mutant with the ability of intergalactic teleportation, following the custom of the planet where women choose who they will marry.
Prince Yan does not have superpowers but he is close to those who have it. Prince Yan asked the help of Captain Marvel to visit the planet and stop his wedding with Lila through objecting. Because of what Captain Marvel did, Prince Yan became king and abolished the Aladnean practice of women choosing whoever they want to marry. This comic sequence may be portrayed in The Marvels. However, despite the huge marketing of The Marvels with the involvement of Park Seo-joon in the movie, a rumor from X user @CanWeGetToast reveals that the role of Prince Yan is “significant, but brief.” This means that the South Korean actor may only be having minimal screen time but since his involvement in The Marvels play a huge role to gather some audience, he is always featured in the promotional materials of the movie. Whether Park Seo-joon will return in future projects remains unknown.
