There is little doubt that The Marvels is a major sequel considering that it will feature three of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the film also has a surprise connection to two heroes with no powers at all. Captain Marvel 2 producer Mary Livanos discussed the similarities between the upcoming film and the Disney+ series Hawkeye.
In The Marvels, Carol Danvers needs to work with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. While the former idolizes Carol as a child, it is clear that the teenaged Kamala is the bigger fan. So it's no surprise that the second Captain Marvel film is drawing some comparisons to Hawkeye which saw young Kate Bishop working with her idol Clint Barton.
The connection isn't lost to The Marvels producer Mary Livanos as she discusses the film with Total Film magazine (via The Direct). During the interview, she compared Ms. Marvel's relationship with Carol Danvers to the relationship between Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. Livanos states that there is "a bit" of connection between Hawkeye and Captain Marvel 2 as they both explore of hero worship.
Livanos further explains that the relationship between Carol and Kamala allows the latter to observe her idol and learn from their shared experience.
"So, while we're seeing Carol Danvers grapple with what has become of her actions, we see that also processed through the eyes of Ms. Marvel. We actually experience forgiveness through the eyes of another person. That can be freeing for the person who might not be able to forgive themselves," she said.
It's an interesting comparison to Hawkeye which featured Clint Barton having to work with Kate Bishop. We're still not sure whether Carol and Kamala will have a similar experience in The Marvels. Still, we can't wait to see how the two superpowered beings will interact later in November.
The Marvels will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. They will be joined by Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Samuel L. Jackson. It will hit theaters on November 10, 2023.
